Nationals' Corbin is strictly a streaming option

Christopher Crawford advises fantasy managers to treat Washington Nationals pitcher Patrick Corbin as a streaming option despite his recent strong starts.

CHRISTOPHER CRAWFORD: It's always nice to see struggling players perform at the level we've grown accustomed to, and over his last two starts, Patrick Corbin has done just that. Corbin picked up a win on Sunday while allowing just 2 runs against the Mets. And that came after his start on Tuesday, where he went into the ninth inning against the Pirates and allowed just 1 run. Even with those two strong outings, the southpaw still has an ERA of 5.40. But that mark was 6.28 on June 3, so progress. But is it enough progress to make Corbin a recommended fantasy option going forward?

The answer, unfortunately, is probably not. Now, keep in mind that was a very small sample last year, but he did struggle in 2020. And these two starts, one of them against a very bad Pittsburgh team, aren't enough to erase those numbers. The only metric that Corbin ranks above average in is chase rate, and he's near the bottom of baseball in expected ERA, expected batting average, strikeout percentage, and several other categories. Once one of the most effective left-handed starters in the sport, Corbin is just a streaming option at this point, and you have to be prepared for some bitter with the better if you're going to have him in your fantasy lineup.
