To the victors, go chicken wings? About that viral Georgia football championship moment

NASHVILLE — Georgia football players talked this offseason about eating off the floor to show they are still hungry to do what it takes to win.

They already showed they aren’t shy to eat on the sideline when a national championship is all but wrapped up.

Some Georgia players created a viral moment when they ate chicken wings in SoFi Stadium near the end of their 65-7 drilling of TCU last January.

“I didn’t see it,” cornerback Kamari Lassiter said “I was on the field, but I saw the aftermath. I thought it was pretty cool.”

Center Sedrick Van Pran Granger partook in a wing. Footage showed he wasn’t the ringleader, but running back Kendall Milton took a plate from a fan in a suite.

“I was not,” Van Pran Granger said. “I did get one as you can see on camera.”

Offensive guards Xavier Truss and Warren Ericson and running back Kenny McItnosh all joined in the fun.

Tight end Brock Bowers said he’s never partaken in chicken wings on a sideline.

It wouldn’t be his go-to snack of choice.

“I’d have to go with pizza or Chick-fil-A sandwich, one of those two,” Bowers said. “I’d have to know for sure I was done because I could not go back in after eating a slice of pizza. I’d probably throw it up.”

How much of a lead is enough to fill those hunger pangs and not wait for the postgame meal offered outside a locker room?

“I don’t know if there’s a point margin where you can say you can eat some wings on the field,” Lassiter said. “But them guys felt they could eat on the field.”
