Varsity 845: High school sports roundups, schedules for August 25-September 3

Football

Cornwall 49, Colonie 33: At RPI, Kevin Arduino won his first game as Cornwall head coach. Jaiden Laureano completed 11 of 14 throws for 108 yards and two scores and tacked on a TD run. Tyler Vanderpool scored three times on 20 carries and 260 yards. Vinnie Sidoti has 12 rushes for 59 yards. Nikko Schewtschenko, Connor Cruz and Dylan Verkowitz each added scores for the Dragons. On defense, Cruz had eight tackles and an interception with Sidoti and Anthony Tucci each added seven stops.

Red Hook 28, at Beacon 19: Landon Ramsey ran for two touchdowns and had two interceptions, including one returned for a 97-yard touchdown to lead the Raiders. His 8-yard touchdown run gave them a 28-6 lead in the fourth quarter.

Highland 41, Liberty 6: Joshua caught three touchdown passes (8, 22, 47 yards) from Connor Gemmell and added a 41-yard punt return for a score. James Gescheidle ran for a 33-yard TD to open the scoring and Marco Garrity had a 17-yard TD run in the fourth quarter.

North Rockland 25, Monroe-Woodbury 15: Monroe-Woodbury quarterback Dave Fennessy completed 11 of 19 throws for 100 yards and rushed four times for 27, including a 9-yard TD run. Nate Coulanges had 16 carries for 121 yards, bolstered by a 63-yard scoring run. Kyle German posted seven solo tackles (three for a loss) and assisted on two others for the Crusaders.

Marlboro 21, Saugerties 14: Miles Brooks completed 7 of 10 passes for 150 yards and a touchdown and rushed for 40 yards and a score, leading the Iron Dukes. Brooks' 50-yard touchdown to Antonio Hickman gave Marlboro a 7-6 lead late in the second quarter. Salvatore Montaperto ran for a touchdown and had six tackles and two sacks for Marlboro.

Washingtonville 35, at Poughkeepsie 0: The visiting Wizards went up 28-0 at halftime. Sean Davis had nine carries for 254 yards, scoring from 97 and 63 yards. Logan Cosentino had five rushes for 91 yards. Nick Ascenzo scored on runs of 8 and 19 yards. Cooper Legacy had a 4-yard TD run. The Wizards held Poughkeepsie to 54 yards of offense, featuring seven sacks and three interceptions.

Tioga 42, Burke Catholic 6: At Waverly, Liam Benzinger posted the only touchdown for Burke. Tioga is the defending state Class D champion.

Wallkill 44, New Paltz 6: Chris Bartolone set a Wallkill record with six touchdown throws; Aidan Kozereski had three of the catches, Ryan Rauschenbach two and Sean Petricek the other. Michael Cullen and Kaden Brown had strong defensive outings for the Panthers. It was Wallkill's first win over New Paltz since a 41-15 decision in 2003, with four losses since then. For New Paltz, Nick Horowitz had 215 all-purpose yards, Ben Gabriel scored on a 20-yard run and Tiernan Schmitt had three carries for 73 yards. Cole Mumford had nine tackles, Horowitz seven and Cooper Driscoll six.

Our Lady of Lourdes 44, Spackenkill 14: Joe Tempestelli ran for 115 yards and a score for host Lourdes (1-0). Drew Kozak ran for one TD and caught a 49-yard scoring pass from Noey Ledesma. Mike Sabini tacked on a score for the Warriors.
