Vanderbilt's Tyrin Lawrence to enter transfer portal after Jerry Stackhouse departure | Report

Vanderbilt basketball's Tyrin Lawrence is set to enter the transfer portal for the second straight offseason, according to a report Tuesday from Joe Tipton of On3 Sports.

Lawrence went in the transfer portal in 2023, but he opted to return to the Commodores. He is graduating, and Vanderbilt parted ways with coach Jerry Stackhouse. But entering the portal does not necessarily mean he will transfer. Players are allowed to change their mind and return, which he did last year.

In 2023-24, Lawrence averaged 14.1 points per game, second on the team, and five rebounds.

Several Commodores players already have entered the portal after the coaching change, including Paul Lewis, Colin Smith, Lee Dort and Jason Rivera-Torres.

After Vanderbilt beat Florida in the final game of the regular season, Stackhouse said he was not sure if Lawrence intended to return. The guard scored his 1,000th career point in that game.

"If it's his last game here . . . he still has his COVID year," Stackhouse said. "So it's just, you got to make a decision on what you want to do there. I know when we talked last offseason, it was hopefully putting him in a position to maybe go to the next level, but there are some decisions that he has to make."
