Vanderbilt baseball earns No. 6 seed in 2023 NCAA Tournament. See the Nashville Regional schedule
Vanderbilt baseball was selected for its 17th consecutive NCAA Tournament regional Monday, giving it the longest active streak in the country.
The Commodores, the No. 6 national seed, will face No. 2 Oregon (37-20), No. 3 Xavier (37-23) and No. 4 Eastern Illinois (38-19) in the Nashville Regional at Hawkins Field. As a top-eight seed, Vanderbilt will also have the opportunity to host a super regional if it advances from the regional.
To open the regional, the Commodores (41-18) will take on Eastern Illinois on Friday. Game times were not immediately announced.
It's the only regional field in which all four teams are conference champions, according to ESPN.
For most of the season, a top-eight seed seemed like a certainty for the Commodores, who started the conference season 11-1. A late-season swoon put that in question, but a series win over Arkansas and winning the SEC Tournament put Vanderbilt back on track to host until the College World Series.
The Commodores have been nearly unstoppable at Hawkins Field this season and did not lose a series there all year, with a 25-6 home record. In SEC play, Vanderbilt was a league-best 13-2 at home.
