Valley Christian girls earn first win since rejoining WIAA and Trailways conference

Here are the results from Monday and Tuesday night's boys and girls basketball games in the Oshkosh area:

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Valley Christian 58, Central Wisconsin Christian 51

WAUPUN - Trailing by two at the half, the Warriors stepped up their defense after the break to earn their first victory since returning to both the WIAA and the Trailways conference as a varsity program.

Lizzie Fink scored a game-high 20 points on 7-of-12 shooting from the field and a perfect 5-for-5 at the free throw line for Valley Christian.

Anna E. Giannopoulos added 14 points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals. Anna Y. Giannopoulos and Mya Moran each had 10 points to round out the scoring leaders for the Warriors.

McKenzie Zuhlke and Taylor Hoffman each scored 13 points to lead CWC.

Oshkosh North 62, Appleton West 43

OSHKOSH - Despite eight first half turnovers and shooting only 36% from the field, the Spartans regrouped at the break to inflate a six-point halftime lead with a 17-0 run to open the second period. The advantage grew to as many as 31 in the victory over the Terrors as North remains undefeated (3-0) to start the season.

Awut Alic had a double-double with 19 points, 11 rebounds and three blocks to lead North. Ava Hanson stuffed the Spartans' stat sheet contributing 13 points, eight rebounds, three assists, three steals and three blocks.

Winneconne 49, Markesan 40

WINNECONNE - The Wolves counted on a nine-point first half advantage over the Hornets to earn their first victory of the season.

Jada Kaiser, Taylor Rogers and Isabella Schaffer all finished as the scoring leader for Winneconne with 10 points apiece. Rogers also had five steals.

Leah Bobek and Megan Glover each scored nine points to lead Markesan. Bobek also had team highs of eight rebounds and six assists.

FOND DU LAC - The Vikings improved to 3-1 with a convincing victory over the Foxes.

Abby Cole put together a double-double for WLA with 18 points, which tied for the game-high, 16 rebounds and five assists. Lindsey Nell added 14 points and eight rebounds for the Vikings.

Julia Koch also had 18 points, 13 of which came in the first half, to lead Omro.

HORTONVILLE - Oshkosh West kept it close early making seven three-pointers in the first half, three from Braelee Jodarski, but Hortonville took off in the second half with full court pressure to stifle the Wildcats and cruise to victory.

Rainey Welson led the way for the Polar Bears with a game-high 22 points and 10 rebounds, giving her a double-double. Her 20th point of the night was the 1,000th of her career. Welson also had six assists and three steals.

Kardyn Peppler followed Welson closely with 21 points, six rebounds and three assists for Hortonville and MiKayla Werner had 10 points, nine rebounds.

Jodarski finished with 12 points to lead West and Paige Seckar added 10 points for the Wildcats.

OSHKOSH - The Knights were outmatched against the Zephyrs, dropping their first contest of the season to fall to 2-1 overall.

Emily Vogel scored a game-high 22 points for SMC. Audrey Norville added 14 points, five rebounds and four steals and Nolie Anderson had 10 points with five rebounds, four assists and eight steals.

Ella Slusarski led Lourdes with 16 points.

OMRO - The Foxes doubled up the Thunderhawks, leading by 25 at the half, on their way to an enormous victory - the first for Omro this season.

Keenan Rahn put together a double-double with 27 points and 13 rebounds with five assists, four blocks and a steal to lead the Foxes. Ryan Schoeni added 22 points, seven rebounds, three steals and two assists for Omro and Mason Huth rounded out the scoring leaders with 15 points, eight assists, four steals and three rebounds.

Ethan Danforth drained five threes to finish with a game-high 31 points for Oneida.

HUSTISFORD - The Knights opened their 2023-24 season with a double-digit road victory over the Falcons.

Mitchell Wing scored a game-high 25 points for Lourdes. Wing also had three rebounds, six assists and three steals.

Calvin Tollard recorded a double-double with 14 points, 13 rebounds and JJ McKellips rounded out the Knights' scoring leaders with 10 points.

Caleb Peplinski led Hustisford with 13 points, six rebounds and three blocks.

Four players scored in double figures for Berlin. Brock Wilde led the way with 20 points, Aaron Bartol followed with 14, Alex Johnson had 13, and Hayden Redington contributed 10. Bartol and Redington each put together double-doubles, grabbing 11 and 12 rebounds, respectively.

Joseph Ascher finished with a game-high 21 points for Wautoma. Carson Armstrong added 18 points and Peter Idsvoog had 13 for the Hornets.

NORTH FOND DU LAC - The Wolves overcame a five-point deficit at the half, turning it into a double-digit victory over the Orioles to open their 2023-24 season.

Parker Ingles went 7-for-10 from beyond the arc, finishing with a game-high 28 points along with seven rebounds for Winneconne. Cohen Reetz added 17 points and eight boards and Brody Schaffer had 14 and seven with three assists.

Jesus Juarez led North Fondy with 15 points and four steals. Dimitri Reed added 14 points for the Orioles and Abe Maurer had 11.

Mason Killam scored a game-high 18 points, grabbed six rebounds and dished out six assists. Henry Beuthin added 17 points and Jacob Riddick had 10 points with nine rebounds for Ripon.

Emmett Gonnering led Campbellsport with 13 points.
