USC Aiken golf set to host 27th annual Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate

Mar. 3—The No. 6 USC Aiken golf team is set to host the 27th Annual Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate on Monday and Tuesday at Palmetto Golf Club.

It is a par-70, 6,617-yard course. The 15-team field will have a shotgun start Monday and will play 36 holes followed by the final round of 18 holes Tuesday with another shotgun start.

USCA is the lone Division II team in the field that consists of Army West Point, Boise State, Dartmouth, Davidson, East Carolina, Francis Marion, Furman, Gardner-Webb, Maryland, Mercer, Presbyterian College, Samford, Temple and Virginia Tech.

Head coach Michael Carlisle's team will consist of Oscar Abrahamsson, Erik Olin, Rory McDonald O'Brien, Nick Goellner and Jonah Winter.

Abrahamsson, fresh off being named PBC Golfer of the Week, leads the team with a 71.0 stroke average. He has a co-championship to his credit as well as a fifth-place finish this season. Abrahamsson has a low round of 67 and has shot par or better 12 times in 18 rounds.

Olin is second on the team with a 71.9 stroke average. He has a pair of top-10 efforts to his credit this year and has shot par or better nine times. Olin's 68 this year marks his low round.

McDonald O'Brien has a top-five finish to his name this year and currently sports a 72.0 stroke average. McDonald O'Brien has a low round of 67, which is shared with Abrahamsson as best on the team. He has shot par or better nine times this season.

Goellner's competed in a pair of tournaments this year and already has a low round of 68. He's averaging 73.3 strokes per round. Goellner's been at par or better three times this season.

Winter sports a 72.2 stroke average. He has played in a pair of events and has shot par or better twice.

A year ago, USCA tied for seventh at the 54-hole event with a score of 869. Davidson is the top returning team from a season ago. The Wildcats were fourth while Virginia Tech and Mercer were fifth and sixth, respectively.
