Upsets and big-time performances: Here's our Nashville area high school football Week 2 roundup

The second week of the TSSAA football season is over. Here's what happened on a hot and humid Friday night.

Note: All stats submitted by coaches or team statisticians.

Brentwood 21, Brentwood Academy 18: Brentwood blocked a 41-yard field goal attempt as time expired to hold on to the win over the Eagles. Baylor Hayes was 15-of-29 passing for 266 yards and a touchdown and had 13 carries for 45 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Bruins. Clayton Merrill added 106 yards on four catches. George MacIntyre was 32-of-45 passing for 353 yards and a touchdown for BA. Oakland transfer Tamari Hill caught 14 passes for 178 yards and a touchdown for Brentwood Academy.

Centennial 42, Summit 0: The Cougars (2-0) built a 28-0 halftime lead and never looked back. Dominic Reed ran for 70 yards with four TDs and teammate Jaylan Drayton had 102 yards on 14 carries for the Cougars (2-0). Teammate Elisha Nieves was 6-of-8 passing for 202 yards. Kani Johnson had four catches for 140 yards and two TDs. Dominick Hollis led Summit with 53 yards on 11 carries. Teammate Mason McElhaney was 5-of-15 passing for 72 yards.

Center Grove 28, Oakland 10: Ashton Jones had 17 carries for 59 yards in Oakland’s loss. Quarterback Patrick Freeman was 7-of-9 passing for 47 yards and Daune Morris had 15 carries for 40 yards for the Patriots.

Columbia Academy 48, Webb 13: Montae Baldwin had five touchdowns on 16 carries for 254 yards to lead Columbia Academy. Quarterback Connor Rosson was 5-of-12 passing for 115 yards and Harrison Brownlee caught four passes for 98 yards for the Bulldogs. Nathan Brisebois led Webb with 113 rushing yards on eight carries.

Cookeville 21, PURE Academy 18: Alonzo Sanchez's 29-yard field goal with 5:05 left gave the Cavaliers their first win of the season. Thomas Johnson ran for 115 yards and had two rushing TDs. He also had two catches for 32 yards.

Davidson Academy 41, Lincoln County 13: Knox Roberts was 10-of-20 passing for 214 yards and four touchdowns for Davidson Academy. TJ Peaks had four catches for 100 yards and a touchdown and Joshua Bolden had 74 yards and two touchdowns on four catches.

Eagleville 54, Community 0: Brody McLemore was 2-of-3 passing for 68 yards and two touchdowns and had four carries for 55 yards and two touchdowns to lead Eagleville. Elijah Fearns had two catches for 39 yards and a touchdown and Noah Lilly caught one pass for 20 yards and a touchdown. Marshall Spann led the defense with seven tackles, including a sack.

East Nashville 47, Kenwood 26: KJ Johnson had 129 yards and two TDs on 21 carries to give the Eagles a 2-0 start. Teammate Kelan Anderson added 13 carries for 161 yards and three TDs.

East Robertson 69, Houston County 0: Isaiah Groves had five carries for 230 yards and two touchdowns for East Robertson. Elijah Groves had two catches for 45 yards, a 90-yard kickoff return for a touchdown and a 20-yard fumble return. Freshman quarterback Kason Young was 6-of-7 passing for 102 yards and two touchdowns.

Ensworth 17, MBA 3: Max Holtzclaw was 12-of-22 passing for 118 yards and a touchdown to lead the Tigers. Jaren Sensabaugh added 51 yards and a touchdown on four catches and Demarii Thompson had 15 carries for 31 yards.

Father Ryan 42, Pope John Paul II 7: JoJo Crump was 7-of-13 passing for 94 yards and a touchdown and had seven carries for 74 yards and three touchdowns to lead Father Ryan (2-0). Jack Mills added 65 yards on one carry and Mason Bryant had eight carries for 49 yards and two touchdowns. Elijah Robb led Pope John Paul II (0-2) with 154 yards on 31 carries.

FRA 47, Franklin 21: Ty Clark III had 11 carries for 234 yards and three touchdowns in FRA’s win. Logan Kinnard was 9-of-16 passing for 110 yards and three touchdowns and had 11 carries for 53 yards. Brewer Wilson was 12-of-24 passing for 119 yards and two touchdowns for the Admirals.

Green Hill 37, West Creek 0: Green Hill held the Coyotes to just 38 yards of offense in a dominating performance by the Hawks. Kannon Burroughs improved to 2-0 as a starter after going 6-of-10 passing for 100 yards and two TDs. Brayden Jones caught two passes for 60 yards and a TD. Teammate Iniko Duffie rushed for 72 yards on five carries.

Hillsboro 49, John Overton 7: Deshawn Trotter was 7-of-9 passing for 155 yards and three touchdowns. He added a rushing TD. Teammate Erick Cleaves had eight carries for 103 yards and two TDs. And Kaiki Baker had two catches for 82 yards and two TDs. He also had eight tackles on defense.

Independence 30, Page 27 (3 OT): Independence held off Page in three overtimes after making a 24-yard field goal in the third OT. Landric Mayeski was 3-of-3 on field goals including a 24-yarder to win the game for the Eagles (1-1). Luke McNeilly was 5-of-10 passing for 46 yards with a 15-yard touchdown pass to Brayden Needham. Needham also rushed for 32 yards.

Page's Jonathan Palmer was was 11-of-28 passing for 70 yards with two TDs and an interception in the loss. Ethan Cunningham had 24 carries for 62 yards. Eric Hazzard had five tackles with four for loss and recovered two fumbles.

Loretto 24, Lawrence County 20: Jaden Stults ran for more than a 100 yards for the second straight week and the Mustangs snapped a 21-year losing streak to rival Lawrence County. Stults finished with 129 yards on 19 carries. Teammate Nicholas McDow had 81 rushing yards and scored the go-ahead TD in the fourth quarter. And quarterback Carter Daniel had 86 yards passing with a TD and ran for 59 yards and a touchdown.

Mt. Juliet 56, Hunters Lane 12: Tyler Travers was 8-of-11 passing for 130 yards with two TDs. Harrison Edwards and Jon Mikael Crudop each ran for two touchdowns. Edwards had five carries for 105 yards and Crudop had seven rushes for 38 yards.

Mt. Juliet Christian 36, Lookout Valley 28: The Saints racked up 396 total yards of offense in the game. Freshman Zach Cartwright had 23 carries for 163 yards and two TDs. Freshman teammate Kayden Curtis had four carries for 110 yards. Curtis also caught three passes for 41 yards with a TD and a two-point conversion.

Nolensville 50, Antioch 24: Ty Collins was 14-of-18 passing for 273 yards and four touchdowns and had eight carries for 66 yards for Nolensville. Zion Tamaska had five catches for 91 yards and two touchdowns and Oliver Bender caught four passes for 73 yards and a touchdown for the Knights.

Pearl-Cohn 15, CPA 11: Keshawn Tarleton's 7-yard touchdown pass to D'Arious Reed with 8:03 left put Pearl-Cohn up for good in a matchup between top-5 teams in their respective classes. Tarleton threw for 133 yards and Javion Kinnard added 62 yards and a rushing touchdown. Braden Streeter was 7-of-26 passing for 83 yards for CPA, and Leroy Harris III caught three passes for 56 yards.

Portland 42, Greenbrier 6: Portland had almost 300 yards of offense and the defense allowed just 100 yards. Tony Hall, Jintre House, Braden Thornton, Seth Hackney, Aiden Bell, and Skylar Hicks all had touchdowns for the Panthers.

Ravenwood 35, Cane Ridge 7: Carter pace ran for 104 yards on 16 carries and scored a touchdown in his first 100-yard game since tearing his ACL during track season. Sophomore QB Femi Babalola was 6-of-15 passing for 86 yards and a TD. Teammate Jacob Thompson had two sacks in the game.

Rockvale 14, Smyrna 9: Brennan Mayhew was 7-of-11 passing for 99 yards and two touchdowns and Logan Padgett had one catch for 55 yards and a touchdown in Rockvale’s win. Jaylan Morgan added 72 yards on 17 carries and Grant Gardner had 13 carries for 49 yards. The win snapped a six-game losing streak dating back to 2022.

DJ Barksdale had 18 carries for 112 yards and Austin Morris had 2 carries for 21 yards and a touchdown for Smyrna.

Stewarts Creek 28, Blackman 21: Transfer Kenny Jordan had four carries for 94 yards and a touchdown and added three receptions for 55 yards and a TD in his debut for the Red Hawks (2-0). Jacob Jones was 8-of-14 for 136 yards and two TDs and Nigel Maynard had two interceptions.

Carter Gregory was 18-of-33 for 219 yards and four interceptions for the Blaze (0-2). Campbell Lee had six catches for 109 yards. And Caden Perkins had 22 carries for 109 yards and two TDs.

Upperman 24, Lebanon 14: Bronzden Chaffin was 9-of-14 passing for 132 yards and a touchdown and had 16 carries for 82 yards for Upperman. Branson Turnbow had one catch for 59 yards and a touchdown Ethan Palk had 66 yards on 15 carries for the Bees.

Waverly 47, Fairview 21: Bryce Stanfield had 27 carries for 367 yards and three touchdowns and caught two passes for 49 yards for Waverly. Hobby Griffin added 49 yards and four touchdowns on 10 carries and was 8-of-15 passing for 102 yards.

Wayne County 40, Summertown 14: Ryder Butler had 14 carries for 170 yards and a touchdown to lead Wayne County. Drew Bevis added 94 yards and three touchdowns on 20 carries and was 4-of-7 passing for 79 yards and a touchdown. Jaden Stoll was 4-of-15 passing for 69 yards and had eight carries for 32 yards and a touchdown and Kaden McCrory added 27 yards on nine carries for Summertown.

White House 20, Liberty Creek 18: Brian Rager threw for 96 yards and ran for 98 more in a two-point loss to the Blue Devils. Rager had a passing TD and a rushing TD. Teammate Mack Tuggle had 19 carries for 107 yards.
