Unranked MBA football surprises Lipscomb Academy for second straight win

Montgomery Bell Academy pieced together its second win in as many weeks, shocking Lipscomb Academy 14-6 Friday at Tommy Owen Stadium in the two teams' first meeting.

Brooklen Davis and Hugh Price each scored rushing touchdowns for the Big Red (3-5, 2-1), who have won three of their last four games.

Lipscomb (2-5, 0-2) was ranked No. 5 in state in DII-AAA. MBA didn't receive any votes in this week's poll.

Davis ran for 114 yards on 18 carries. He scored on a 51-yard run in the fourth quarter. The Big Red sealed the win with a goal-line stand, stopping the Mustangs inside MBA's 1-yard line. The Big Red then ran the clock out for the win. Price was 4-of-9 passing for 74 yards and had 16 rushing yards, including a 1-yard TD run in the first quarter.

Lipscomb's scoring consisted of two Kofi Boggs' field goals. He connected from 34 yards in the third quarter and drilled a 42-yarder to trim MBA's lead to 7-6 in the fourth quarter before Davis' score to put the game away.

Tav Shaffer was 20-of-32 passing for 170 yards for Lipscomb Academy. The Mustangs have lost three of their past four games.

Dillon Lorick caught eight passes for 106 yards and Micah Burton had 20 carries for 72 yards. Tennessee commit Edwin Spillman had seven total tackles for Lipscomb. Tony Carter had three tackles and two sacks.
