UIL Regional Tennis: West Oso, London, Vets players take regional titles into state

Four area high school tennis players will be heading to next week’s UIL state tennis tournament in San Antonio as regional champions.

West Oso’s Aracely Salinas, Veterans Memorial's Jenny Su and London’s Alijah Miranda and Kailey Albrecht all won singles titles in their respective regional tournaments this past week.

Here’s a recap of regional tennis tournaments for Coastal Bend Players. The UIL State Tennis Tournament is scheduled for May 16-17 at multiple sites in San Antonio.

Class 4A

Salinas defeated Stafford’s Amanni Karera, 6-4, 6-4 in the Region IV-4A final in San Antonio to earn a regional championship and win what is believed to be West Oso High School’s first regional title.

Also in Class 4A, Calallen’s Jacob Carr finished third defeating Tuloso-Midway’s Kenneth Hayes in the third-place place 6-2, 6-0.

Tuloso-Midway’s Ally Leonard and Seth Rosson finished fourth in mixed doubles.

Tuloso-Midway’s Abram Botello and Michael Moreau earned a state tournament spot in boys doubles by winning a regional playback match against Floresville’s Jacob and William Marshall.

Class 3A

Albrecht and Miranda were virtually unstoppable on the way to singles titles in Class 3A in Jourdanton.

Miranda won the boys singles final 6-0, 6-1 over Crystal City’s Adrian Saucedo.

Albrecht took the girls singles final in 6-1, 6-0 against Hondo’s Ava Lowe.

Also in Class 3A, the Falfurrias boys doubles tandem of Juan Barrera and Quisto Sanchez lost a regional playback match, missing out on a chance at a state tournament spot.

Class 5A

Veterans Memorial's Jenny Su won the girls singles at the H-E-B Tennis Center on Saturday, defeating Liberty Hill's India Young.

The Flour Bluff mixed doubles duo of Kyle Barganski and Camille Neri combined to finish in the fourth spot.

Class 2A

The Woodsboro boys doubles team of Layton Jochetz and Taggart Silvas won the third-place match, but lost a regional playback to Mason’s Keegan Ratliff and Carlton Schmidt.
