UGA community saddened to hear of Sonny Seiler’s passing

University of Georgia legend Sonny Seiler has passed away. Seiler is known for raising English Bulldogs that became Ugas, which are Georgia’s famous live mascot.

Ugas are able to live a life of luxury in an air conditioned dog house in large part thanks to Sonny Seiler. Seiler, 90, passed away in Savannah, Georgia. Seiler, who was a well-known attorney, regularly attended Georgia athletic board meetings.

Seiler and his wife, Cecelia, originally brought Uga to 1956’s season opener.  Georgia football coach Wally Butts requested that the Seilers bring their English Bulldog to that game and the rest is history.

Frank W. “Sonny” Seiler attended UGA and will always be remembered for his big role at the school.

Georgia football coach Kirby Smart and others were saddened to hear of Sonny Seiler’s passing.
