UFC Champion Jon Jones Granted Second Delay in DWI Sentencing

UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones, according to a report by PressConnects.com, appeared in Binghamton City Court on Tuesday where he requested and was granted a second delay in his sentencing for a DWI charge. Jones apparently requested more time more time to complete the court-mandated drug and alcohol evaluation required prior to his sentencing.

Jones, on May 29, plead guilty to a DWI charge stemming from a car accident on May 19 in Binghamton, N.Y. Jones drove his 2012 Bentley into a telephone pole. No other vehicles were involved.

He pled guilty to Driving While Intoxicated as part of a plea bargain with the District Attorney’s office in Binghamton City Court. Traffic violations for an improper turn and deviating from a direct course were dismissed.

PressConnects.com reported that under the plea agreement, Jones is expected to receive a one-year conditional discharge and pay a fine of up to $1,500. He would also be required to install ignition interlock devices in his vehicles, pay restitution for damage, undergo a substance dependency evaluation and attend a victim impact class.

Jones is now scheduled to appear on July 31 for final sentencing.

The outcome of Jones’ sentencing is not expected to affect the scheduling of his UFC 151 main event title defense against Dan Henderson.
