UConn women to open NCAA Tournament at home vs. No. 15 Mercer; Fairfield to play No. 2 seed Texas

The UConn women’s basketball team will be staying close to home for much of the NCAA Tournament. After playing their way up to a No. 2 seed in the Bridgeport Region, the Huskies will host the first two rounds.

They begin play on Saturday against No. 15 seed Mercer (23-6) at Gampel Pavilion. The other game in Storrs is No. 7 UCF (25-3) vs. No. 10 Florida (21-10).

If the Huskies (25-5), the Big East champs, advance to the Sweet 16, they would play the next two rounds at Webster Bank Arena in Bridgeport.

The Final Four is April 1 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The championship game is April 3 at 8 p.m. ET. UConn has reached 13 consecutive Final Fours.

Fairfield, winner of the MAAC Tournament, is in the women’s tournament for the first time since 2001. The No. 15 seed Stags (25-6) got No. 2 seed Texas (26-6) and will play in Austin, Texas on Friday in the Spokane Region.

Princeton (24-4), the Ivy League winner, coached by former UConn guard Carla Berube, got a No. 11 seed and will begin play vs. No. 6 Kentucky (19-11) on Saturday in Bloomington, Indiana in the Bridgeport Region.
