Arizona WR transfer deletes Twitter post about transferring to UCF
One day after losing freshman wide receiver Titus Mokiao-Atimalala to the NCAA Transfer Portal, UCF coach Gus Malzahn thought he had gained a new receiver from the portal.
Arizona sophomore transfer receiver Boobie Curry committed to the Knights in a Twitter post that was later taken down following the announcement.
It’s unclear what led to the deletion of the social media post but according to multiple reports, Curry is no longer expected to transfer to UCF.
“Well, something came up with Boobie Curry and UCF, so that’s off the table for the ex-Arizona receiver. He’s still on the market,” Michael Lev of the Arizona Daily Star wrote on Twitter.
While citing a source, UCFSports.com also confirmed that Curry is in fact not headed to UCF.
Curry played in all 12 games and made three starts this past season for the Wildcats, catching 21 passes for 233 yards and 3 touchdowns.
The Houston, Texas, native actually entered the transfer portal once before following the 2020 season but eventually returned to Arizona, according to azdesertswarm.com.
Curry emerged as a starter for the Wildcats in 2020 and totaled 10 passes for 89 yards while appearing in all five of Arizona’s games in the COVID-19 shortened season.
As a true freshman in 2019, he played in 9 games while earning 3 starts. That year, Curry caught 6 passes.
Coming out of St. Pius X High School in Houston, Curry was rated as a 4-star prospect and ranked the No. 27 wide receiver in the country for the 2019 recruiting class. In high school, Curry recorded 1,946 yards on 153 career receptions, including 21 touchdowns in only 17 career games.
One likely connection between Curry and UCF is Knights receiver coach Darrell Wyatt, who is a native of Texas and has been responsible for a number of Texas pass-catchers playing at UCF, including Ryan O’Keefe and Jaylon Robinson.
While Curry won’t be transferring to UCF, Malzahn and Co. have had success using the transfer portal. So far, the Knights have added Maryland linebacker Terrence Lewis, Kentucky linebacker K.D. McDaniel, Austin Peay defensive back Koby Perry and Jacksonville State offensive tackle Tylan Grable.
