UA's Tommy Janowicz is The Dispatch regular-season boys lacrosse player of the year

Upper Arlington's Tommy Janowicz, left, is defended by Dublin Jerome's Colin Colby during the 2022 Division I boys lacrosse final at Historic Crew Stadium. The Golden Bears won that game and are seeking another state title, which would be the program's 18th, this spring. Janowicz has been voted regular-season boys lacrosse player of the year by Dispatch.com readers.

The boys lacrosse season is hardly over, especially for central Ohio teams, but it’s the regular season that puts teams in contention to compete for regional and state championships.

Eight area players were featured in a poll for the central Ohio high school boys lacrosse regular-season player of the year.

Your votes have been tallied, and the winner is Tommy Janowicz of Upper Arlington.

A senior attacker who has signed with Ohio State, Janowicz led the Golden Bears (15-3) with 60 points during the regular season. A four-year letterwinner and three-year starter who also played quarterback and linebacker for the football team the past three seasons, Janowicz has filled in in the midfield and on defense this year because of injuries.

“He’s had to do a little bit of everything,” coach Kyle Olson said. “He’s tremendously important to us.”

UA, which is ranked No. 1 in the state by LaxNumbers.com and the top seed in Division I, Region 3, begins the regional tournament Tuesday at home against Newark.

Janowicz came from behind in the final hours of the poll to receive 29.2% of the vote, ahead of Joey Clifford from Hilliard Davidson (26.8%). They were followed by Olentangy Liberty’s Jake Struck (14.4%), Jonathan Alder’s Jack Kennedy (8.8%), Watterson’s Angelo Lamatrice (6.7%), Worthington Kilbourne’s Cole Fisher (6%), Jonathan Alder’s Eli Nicol (5.6%) and Watterson’s Elliott Baur (2.5%).

All of these players are candidates to make our All-Metro boys lacrosse team, which will be revealed as part of the Central Ohio High School Sports Awards. The live show is June 20 at Mershon Auditorium.
