Do the Oakland Raiders employ someone already on the roster that can fill the holes before committing to the draft? A couple spring to mind, but they would need to outplay a veteran, in order to take their job.

Oni Omoile Guard/OT

One of the most interesting players the Raiders currently have is a cousin of fellow Iowa State OL Kelechi Osemele. It’s only fitting that Omoile looks like he could step in. Furthermore, not only does he boast decent size 6’3 300lbs, he is quick for his size. Plus, he possesses excellent strength and has versatility across the line. Omoile’s lack of overwhelming bulk could count against him. Yet, his film projects a spot on an NFL roster. I think Omoile makes the team eventually as a backup.

Kenneth Durden CB

Coming out of Youngstown State this corner is an unknown quantity to many fans and arguably could be a surprise package at the OTAs. Adding to his ability as a cornerback, he proved deserving of a look on special teams. If Durden is to climb on to the main roster, he’ll need to stand out this summer. Plus, how can you not roof for a player who idolizes a former Raider great?

Despite outstanding testing (4.5 speed, 39 inch vert), Durden’s dismissal for marijuana while at USF could be an obstacle going forward. Although, making the practice squad signals the team saw this an an isolated incident.

Granted, the odds remain long that these two players ever see the main roster. On the other hand, many didn’t think that Jalen Richard and James Cowser would play a role. For this reason, players around the roster. The hungriest guys on the roster are those without guaranteed spots. Consequently, depth guys chomp at the bit waiting. While you may not know them now, there’s a chance you’ll know them soon.
