Two Panther girls have top 10 finish

Aug. 30—Payton Davis and Reese Strunk led the way for the Creston girls cross country team Tuesday at Maryville, Missouri.

Davis, a junior, finished fourth individually in a time of 23:55. About a minute behind her was freshman Reese Strunk who crossed the line in seventh in 24:53.

"It was a great night in Maryville," said Creston coach Maggie Arnold.

Other Creston girls who finished were Karter Clayton, in 18th, in a time of 26:40. Gretchen Hoepker finished 26th in a time of 29:36.

For the Panther boys, Anthony Eblen was the first to cross the finish line in 20th place in a time of 20:17. Christian Ahrens came in 37th in a time of 22:05. Wyatt Goodenberger crossed the finish line in 39th place in a time of 22:18. Hector Suazo was 44th in 23:24. Allen Kendrick placed 50th in 24:20.

As a team, Creston boys finished seventh with 166 points. Chillicothe, Missouri, won the boys race with 43 points.

"Anthony Eblen led the way for the boys finishing 20th, just out of the medals (top 15). Really great races by all athletes. I am pleased with their performances on a flat, fast course," Arnold said.

Still early in the season, Arnold likes where the runners are at.

"They have all looked very strong and have been running right where I want each of them to be for this portion of the season. We will get back to work for the rest of the week," she said.

Creston runs Tuesday at Winterset.

"Our lineup should be at full strength there for the first time this season. I am looking forward to seeing the entire team compete."
