Twitter reacts to report Bill Belichick could be fired with Week 10 loss

A recent report from the Boston Globe’s Ben Volin suggests New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick could be ousted, if the team loses on Sunday to the Indianapolis Colts.

The Patriots are coming off back-to-back losses to the Miami Dolphins and Washington Commanders. A loss in Sunday’s international game against the Colts would drop New England to 2-8 on the season and pretty much guarantee a dumpster fire finish.

Per NESN’s Adam London, Volin wrote:

“Based on my conversations, I don’t think it’s 100% that Belichick finishes out this season. These next two games before the bye are huge, particularly the Germany game, which is practically the team’s Super Bowl for the Krafts. If Belichick loses at home to the Commanders and then to the Colts, and comes home from Germany with a 2-8 record, I think there’s a chance the Krafts could make the move in the bye week and install Jerod Mayo as the interim coach for the final seven games.”

It would be shocking to see owner Robert Kraft drop the hammer on Belichick midseason considering everything he’s done for the franchise. The more likely scenario is ownership riding this one out and giving Belichick the respect of going out on his shield.

But there’s also the reality that the team is on the verge of a historically bad season under Belichick’s watch. Things have gone off a cliff since Tom Brady rode off into the sunset with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and retirement. A complete rebuild is necessary, and the Patriots might no longer want Belichick’s fingerprints on those plans.

Also, if the team really did plan on firing the head coach, it would make sense to do so ahead of the bye week, which comes after Sunday’s game against Indy.

Here’s what people are saying on Twitter regarding Belichick’s potential firing:
