Twitter reacts as Iowa routs Wisconsin, Caitlin Clark makes more history

Caitlin Clark and Iowa just keep on rolling right along. The junior guard from West Des Moines made more individual history as Iowa (21-5, 13-2 Big Ten) routed Wisconsin (8-19, 3-12 Big Ten), 91-61.

The Badgers actually jumped out to an early 12-5 lead and it took until the 4:48 mark of the first quarter before Caitlin Clark knocked down her first field goal.

Clark finished the night leading all scorers with 24 points on 9-of-12 shooting, including 4-of-7 from 3-point range. She also just missed out on her 40th career double-double after dishing out eight assists. Clark added six rebounds to boot.

In the process, Clark became the first Big Ten women’s basketball player to be both top 10 in career scoring and career assists in league history. She extended her NCAA Division I best streak of double-figure scoring to 78 games and netted at least one 3-pointer for the 45th consecutive outing.

Meanwhile, Clark was joined in the scoring column by a pair of efficient nights from both Monika Czinano and McKenna Warnock.

Czinano, a fifth-year senior forward from Watertown, Minn., notched 19 points on 8-of-11 shooting. She also collected six rebounds. Warnock, a senior from Madison, Wis., connected on 7-of-11 field goal tries for 16 points. She also added four assists.

Freshman Hannah Stuelke had another terrific night in limited action, scoring nine points on 3-of-4 shooting and grabbing seven rebounds in just 16 minutes of floor time.

As a team, Iowa dominated the paint. The Hawkeyes outscored the Badgers inside the paint 48-14. Iowa also blanked Wisconsin in fast break points 11-0 and the Hawkeyes’ bench scored 22 compared to the Badgers’ 12.

Iowa led by as many as 33 and the Hawkeyes shot 64.3% from the field for the game and 42.9% from 3-point distance. The Hawkeyes have now won 16 of their past 18 games dating back to Dec. 4, 2022.

“I thought we played well once we got in a rhythm offensively. It was nice to see all of our players get into the game and contribute. McKenna Warnock had a huge night. It was good to see her play like herself again. I was pleased with the result and all of our attention is focused on Nebraska,” Iowa head women’s basketball coach Lisa Bluder said.

Iowa does face Nebraska (14-12, 6-9 Big Ten) next on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. CT inside Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln.
