Twitter reactions during Cowboys loss, Dak Prescott’s injury
The Dallas Cowboys 2022 campaign got off to a solid start and quickly went downhill from there. Their opening drive led to a successful field goal attempt by Brett Maher, but the offense would not score again the rest of the game.
Dropping their home opener, 19-3, there were plenty of interesting reactions to the few highs, several lows, debilitating injuries like QB Dak Prescott’s hand, and everything else in between.
The field goal is good!
On the opening drive of the game the Cowboys offense drives down field leading to a 51 yard field goal attempt for Brett Maher. Cowboys lead 3-0:
Brett Maher nails it from 51 for an early lead, which is definitely something we all thought we'd be typing in 2022.
A few reasons to be encouraged by the first possession. Dak Prescott being That Dude, mainly.

Defense: Micah Parsons comes up with another 3rd down sack
Following an interception by Cowboys QB Dak Prescott, the defense came onto the field with Tampa Bay starting on the Dallas 23 yard line. Facing a 3rd and 3 from the DAL 4, Tampa QB Tom Brady is sacked by Micah Parsons.
Micah Parsons with his second sack from the right side. This time he beats Josh Wells to force a FG. Ryan Succop makes this one. Bucs lead, 9-3. Time for the offense to do … something.

Offense: Penalties continue to put the Cowboys behind the sticks
Right tackle Terence Steele is penalized twice in a three play span for false starts while the offense continues to struggle following a Tampa Bay Bucs touchdown, down 19-3. The crowd makes sure their displeasure is heard.
Cowboys fans with the loudest boos of the night after Terence Steele’s second false start on this series
— Jon Machota (@jonmachota) September 12, 2022
The boos are loud now as Cowboys fans are restless. They didn't come here to see this.

Offense: Boo birds continue following a miss by Dak Prescott.
Down 19-3 and unable to sustain drives offensively, the Cowboys fanbase boos after a missed third down conversion by Dak Prescott to Noah Brown.
Dak Prescott misses an open Noah Brown badly… and the boo birds are out.

Offense: Another penalty
Terence Steele draws his fourth penalty of the game, exceeding the total for the Bucs team collectively.
Terence Steele has more penalties (four) than Tampa Bay (three). And three have been on this series.
— Todd Archer (@toddarcher) September 12, 2022
Terence Steele is losing badly tonight. 4 penalties.
— KD Drummond (@KDDrummondNFL) September 12, 2022
Defense: Desperately needing a takeaway the defense answers the call.
With the Cowboys offense unable to sustain drives, the Cowboys needed a timely takeaway from their defense in the worst way,

Offense: Another missed connection
Following an interception by safety Donovan Wilson the Cowboys offense goes three and out on an incomplete pass to Noah Brown.
Can't miss that throw. Margin is too small with this group.

Dak has played bad all night, but that looked like Noah Brown sat down and then took off as Prescott was releasing, vacating the space.

Offense: When it rains it pours
Already down starting left guard Connor McGovern, Dallas loses quarterback Dak Prescott to a thumb injury.

Postgame reactions
Despite the best efforts of the defense to bend but not break, the Cowboys offense was unable to sustain anything after their opening drive. Racking up injuries, penalties, sacks and incompletions the nation had a mixed reaction of thoughts.
In tonight's 19-3 loss to Buccaneers, Cowboys had their second-lowest scoring output in a season opener in franchise history. Only one worse? A 28-0 loss to Saints on Sept. 10, 1989, Jerry Jones' first game as team owner.
— Michael Gehlken (@GehlkenNFL) September 12, 2022
Definitely proud of this defense but this offense is 🔥🗑 We deserve better Jerry and Stephen @dallascowboys 😒🖕🏼

Based purely on what we saw before the Dak injury, I'd say the Cowboys put in one of the 2-3 worst performances of Week 1.
Throw in that small issue, and I'd say they're the runaway leaders in the clubhouse for worst start to the season.
