Twitter explodes over Dabo Swinney’s massive contract extension

Good news for Clemson fans today; Dabo Swinney is here to stay.

Clemson Director of Athletics Graham Neff announced Friday that Swinney and the school have agreed to a new contract extension to keep Swinney with the program through the 2031 season. A well-deserved extension for one of the best coaches in all of college football.

Swinney is a two-time national championship-winning head coach with 151 career wins in just fifteen seasons (fourteen full seasons). This contract is Swinney’s second extension in four years, as he signed a 10-year, $93-million contract in 2019 that ran through the 2028 season.

With this extension, the Clemson head coach remains among the highest-paid head coaches in college football. The ten-year $115,000,000 contract gives Swinney an average annual salary of $11.5 million throughout the deal, excluding incentives. The agreement makes Swinney the second-highest paid head coach in the country, surpassing Georgia’s Kirby Smart ($10.2 million).

During his time with Clemson, few head coaches and programs have seen as much success as Swinney and the Tigers. Love him or hate him; he’s here for the long haul.
