Twin Valley grad A.J. Alexy outrighted off Chicago White Sox's 40-man roster

Apr. 29—Twin Valley grad A.J. Alexy, a right-handed pitcher, has been outrighted off the Chicago White Sox's 40-man roster.

Alexy, who has been with Triple-A Charlotte, will remain with the Knights.

The 25-year-old is 0-3 with a 15.30 ERA in 10 innings over four starts with Charlotte. He has allowed seven hits, walked 18 and struck out 10.

The White Sox are Alexy's fourth major league organization since the end of the 2022 season.

He was designated for assignment by the Texas Rangers on Dec. 9, claimed off waivers by the Washington Nationals Dec. 13, then designated for assignment by them on Jan. 4. The Minnesota Twins acquired Alexy from Washington for minor-league pitcher Cristian Jimenez on Jan. 11.

He was designated for assignment by the Minnesota Twins on Jan. 23, then claimed by the White Sox on Jan. 30. Chicago optioned him to Triple-A during spring training.

Pagoda Pacers scholarships: The Pagoda Pacers Athletic Club has announced the recipients of its cross country scholarships for 2023: Wilson's Evelyn Eastman, who plans to attend SUNY Delhi; Exeter's Katherine Ryan, who plans to attend Temple; Gov. Mifflin's Rory Sea, who plans to attend Vermont; and Exeter's Nathan Wentling, who plans to attend Robert Morris.

Each will receive a scholarship of $750.

Dalton Gimbor a Scholar All-American: Kutztown University's Dalton Gimbor, a Hamburg grad, has been named a NWCA Division II Scholar All-American.

He was one of five KU wrestlers to be so honored, joining Andreo Ferraina., Hunter Horton, Alex Ward and Matthew Weinberg.

To be eligible for the award, student-athletes must have a minimum 3.5 cumulative grade-point average on a 4.0 scale (3.25 for those who qualified for the NCAA Division II Wrestling Championships; 3.0 for All-Americans).

Gimbor qualified for the Division II Championships and earned All-Pennsylvania State Athletic conference honors.

MAC Senior Scholar-Athletes: Four individuals with Berks ties have been named MAC Senior Scholar-Athletes, the Middle Atlantic Conference has announced.

Gov. Mifflin grad Luke Fagley of Alvernia received the honor for men's golf, and Berks Catholic grad Justin Schuetz of Lebanon Valley for men's tennis.

In addition, Albright's Gabby Boggs was the selection for women's basketball, and Alvernia's Olivia Gilida earned the award for women's hockey.

Fagley, who is majoring in mathematics and working towards his MBA, has a 3.75 grade-point average. He is a three-time Academic All-MAC selection and a 2022 GCAA All-American Scholar.

He also is a three-time All-MAC Commonwealth selection, including making the first team in 2022.

Schuetz, a business administration and English major, has a 3.73 GPA. He has been named to the Academic All-MAC team and MAC Academic Honor Roll.

He is a two-time All-MAC Commonwealth first team selection, and he was named the 2022 MAC Commonwealth Player of the Year and the 2019 MAC Commonwealth Rookie of the Year.

Boggs is studying for a Master of Science in Education after earning her undergraduate degree in early childhood education and family studies/sociology. She has a 4.0 GPA, and is a five-time MAC Academic Honor Roll recipient and was named to the Women's Basketball Academic All-MAC Team in 2022.

On the court, she was a three-time MAC Commonwealth Defensive Player of the Year (2020, 2022, 2023) and the MAC Commonwealth Player of the Year in 2023. She was a first-team All-MAC Commonwealth select twice and a second-team pick twice. She is the second player in school history to have over 1,500 points and 1,000 rebounds.

Gilida, a finance major, has a 3.84 GPA. She is a two-time Women's Ice Hockey Academic All-MAC and a two-time UCHC All-Academic selection.

A defenseman, Gilida was a three-time All-MAC pick, including making the first team in 2020. She was the MAC and UCHC Rookie of the Year in 2020.

KU grad Brennan named Rowan interim coach: Eric Brennan, a former Kutztown University men's basketball standout, has been named interim head men's basketball coach at Rowan University.

Brennan takes over for Joe Crispin, the former Penn State star who left for a position on new Nitanny Lions coach Mike Rhoades' staff.

Brennan has been an assistant coach at Rowan for the past five years. Before that, he spent four seasons on the staff under Hall of Fame coach Herb Magee at Philadelphia University.

In his two seasons at Kutztown (2010-12), Brennan was a two-time All-PSAC East selection. As a senior, he averaged 14.0 points and 9.3 rebounds per game and was a first-team all-conference pick.

He began his college career at Lock Haven, where he was an All-PSAC West first-team selection as a sophomore. He finished his college career with 1,336 points.
