In volleyball

Bloomington 2, Urbana 0. Urbana's rough stretch continued with Tuesday's two-set Big 12 Conference loss at Bloomington. No set scores were reported. Sophia Sheyko-Frailey led the Tigers (1-6) with nine assists. Sammi Christman finished with five kills and three digs, Sofi Recio had five digs and Janasia Dillon chipped in four kills and two digs.

Cerro Gordo/Bement 2, Argenta-Oreana 0. Cerro Gordo/Bement finds itself in the midst of another winning streak, with Tuesday's 25-22, 27-25 sweep of Argenta-Oreana (7-12) extending the Broncos' current streak to four and keeping them unbeaten in Lincoln Prairie Conference play. Haylei Simpson led CG/B (17-2) with 19 assists and two blocks, Skye Tieman was the defensive leader with 14 digs and Ali Walker contributed 12 kills and seven digs in the win.

Cissna Park 2, Westville 0. Cissna Park stayed unbeaten in Vermilion Valley Conference action with Tuesday's 25-18, 25-14 sweep of Westville. Ava Morrical's 29 assists helped facilitate a strong attack for the Timberwolves (14-2), with Addie Lucht leading the way with 13 kills. Brooklyn Stadeli added nine digs, six kills and three aces, Sophie Duis had six kills, three blocks and three aces and Morgan Sinn was tops defensively with 12 digs. Lainey Wichtowski had eight assists and four digs for the Tigers (18-2), while Ella Miller added seven kills and six digs.

Effingham 2, Mahomet-Seymour 0. Mahomet-Seymour's Avery Allen had eight digs, seven kills, two aces and one block, but the Bulldogs (14-3) had their four-match winning streak broken and lost their first Apollo Conference match of the season in a 25-22, 25-18 Effingham sweep.

El Paso-Gridley 2, Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley 0. Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley looked primed to build off Monday's win against Clifton Central with a first-set victory against Heart of Illinois Conference rivals El Paso-Gridley, but the Titans rebounded for a 23-25, 25-9, 25-17 victory. Ava Lage put up a team-high nine digs to go with two kills for the Falcons (4-11). Sophia Ray added seven digs and four kills, and Bailey Fitzpatrick had seven digs and five assists in the loss.

Georgetown-Ridge Farm 2, Iroquois West 0. Georgetown-Ridge Farm pushed its winning streak to four and got closer to .500 on the season with Tuesday's 25-13, 25-19 sweep of Iroquois West in Vermilion Valley Conference play. Rubyrae Fraser-Soule paced the Buffaloes (9-10) with 13 assists. Kendall Roberts flirted with a triple-double with eight kills, eight digs and seven assists, Milee Ellis added five kills and Skyley Meador finished with six digs, three kills and two aces.

Heritage 2, Tri-County 0. Heritage bounced back after consecutive losses last week to sweep Tri-County 25-14, 25-20 in Broadlands. Mary Roland led the Hawks (11-7-2) with 25 assists, six digs and four aces. Lilli Montgomery was tops defensively with 13 digs, Loran Tate added nine kills and two digs and Destanee Morgan finished with eight digs and four kills in the win. Brookelyn Gough had eight assists and two digs for the Titans (3-9), and Briana Reese added six digs, four kills and two aces.

Milford 2, Salt Fork 0. Salt Fork couldn't prolong the momentum from Monday's win against Danville and dropped its Vermilion Valley Conference followup Tuesday in a 25-21, 25-20 Milford sweep. Ava Ringtrom paced the Storm (5-7) with 17 assists, while Maya Smith and Rain Pitlik put down seven kills apiece.

Monticello 2, Paxton-Buckley-Loda 1. Paxton-Buckley-Loda forced a decisive third set in Tuesday's Illini Prairie Conference match with against Monticello, but the Sages rallied for the 25-22, 26-28, 25-18 victory. Addison Finet had 19 assists for Monticello (12-4), Mady Melton was strong defensively with 12 digs and Shelby Smith provided the offense with 10 kills.

Oakwood 2, Hoopeston Area 0. Six assists from Layla Birch and three aces from Kaitlynn Lange weren't enough for Hoopeston Area (6-9), as Oakwood (4-6) posted a 25-23, 27-25 victory in Tuesday's Vermilion Valley Conference match.

Paris 2, Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin 0. Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin (8-7) dropped its third straight match Tuesday in a 25-12, 25-14 Paris sweep.

Peoria Notre Dame 2, Champaign Central 0. Champaign Central's struggles against its Peoria-based Big 12 Conference rivals continued Tuesday in a 25-23, 25-23 Peoria Notre Dame victory. The Maroons (11-8) dropped back to .500 in league play despite Bridget Cassady's near double-double with 12 kills and nine digs. Ava Clark had her own almost double-double with 14 assists and nine digs, Kindle Williams added 20 digs and five kills and Cricket Wagner also contributed 18 digs in the loss.

Peoria Richwoods 2, Centennial 1. Centennial at least forced a third set in Tuesday's Big 12 Conference match against Richwoods, but the Chargers couldn't complete the comeback in an ultimately tight 25-10, 14-25, 25-23 win for the Knights. Emily Pitcher's 18-assist, 12-dig double-double led the way for Centennial (9-11), and Nia Bolton was at the forefront defensively with 14 digs.

St. Thomas More, 2, Rantoul 0. St. Thomas More built off the moment of Saturday's final win at the Mount Pulaski Fall Festival by sweeping Rantoul 25-13, 25-20 on Tuesday night in Illini Prairie Conference action. Julia Johnson led the Sabers (11-6) with 14 assists, five digs and four kills. Shannon Monahan added 12 kills and seven digs, and Addie Kerr had 11 assists, six digs, three kills and three aces. Ashlee Freeman paced the Eagles (7-11) with 13 assists and two kills, and Lily Stalter added six kills.

Villa Grove 2, Blue Ridge 0. Villa Grove's losing streak ended at two with Tuesday's 25-23, 25-9 Lincoln Prairie Conference sweep of Blue Ridge. Kalyn Cordes had 11 assists for the Blue Devils (10-5), with Jobella Crafton leading the team with six kills. Carly Eads added five assists in the win, and Madison Hinds put up four kills and two blocks.

Watseka 2, Chrisman 1. Watseka put itself in an early hole by dropping the first set of Tuesday's road match at Chrisman (9-6), but the Warriors rallied for the 22-25, 25-21, 25-12 victory to stay unbeaten in Vermilion Valley Conference play. Brianna Denault's stellar floor defense with 35 digs led Watseka (12-5), with Ella Smith contributing 15 digs. Christa Holohan finished with 26 assists for the Warriors, and Lauren Tegtmeyer had a team-high 13 kills and five aces.

In boys' soccer

Argenta-Oreana 8, Blue Ridge/DeLand-Weldon 0. A balanced Argenta-Oreana offense pushed the Bombers to an easy win Tuesday against Blue Ridge/DeLand-Weldon. Rylan Lawson, Luke Scott and Lucas May all scored twice for A-O (9-4). Rylan Lawson also led the Bombers with three assists, and Brady Lawson assisted on two goals. A-O goalkeeper Adam Stark made one save in the win.

Champaign Central 8, Bloomington 1. Matt Winterbottom accounted for half of Champaign Central's goals in Tuesday's Big 12 Conference blowout at Bloomington that ran the Maroons' winning streak to five straight matches with no losses since Sept. 2. Diego Zarco also added two goals and one assist for Central (9-2-1), while Julien Moss led the team with three assists and Aaron Poetzel assisted on two goals.

Centennial 2, Uni High 1. Centennial's Victor Fernandez scored the game-winning goal off an Issac Ramos assist with 34 seconds remaining in Tuesday's nonconference home match against Uni High. Nehemiah McKissick had a first-half goal for the Chargers (5-5-1), with Lucas Pianfetti providing the assist, and goalkeeper Tresody Ondongo made six saves in the win. Shabi Prasanth scored for the Illineks (7-5) off a Henry Wang assist, and goalkeeper David Risinger had three saves.

Fisher/Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley 2, Coal City 0. Fisher/Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley pushed its winning streak to eight straight matches with Tuesday's Rivals Cup victory against Coal City in Manteno. Jacob Chittick scored in the first half for the Bunnies (12-1) off an assist by Sid Pfoff, and Zack Zbinden finished a Mason Doman assist in the second half for the other goal. Fisher/GCMS goalkeeper Parker Baillie recorded two saves in the win.

Georgetown-Ridge Farm/Chrisman 0, Hoopeston Area 0. Georgetown-Ridge Farm/Chrisman secured Tuesday's Vermilion Valley Conference victory against Hoopeston Area with a 3-0 advantage in penalty kills. Simon Ankstatis, Luke Barney, and Nathan Blue all made their penalty kicks for the Buffaloes (7-1-1), and goalkeeper Matthew Darling got the shutout victory. Goalkeeper Brayden Walder finished with nine saves for the Cornjerkers (10-4) in the loss.

Iroquois West 5, Clifton Central 4. A hat trick from Angel Andrade, plus an assist, and two goals from Keylan Leon helped Iroquois West top Clifton Central on Tuesday. Mario Andrade and Landen Kraft added an assist apiece for the Raiders (3-11), and goalkeeper Ben Hack finished with five saves in the win.

Judah Christian 1, Bloomington Cornerstone Christian 1. Judah Christian's Braydon Mora scored in Tuesday's East Central Illinois Conference showdown with Cornerstone Christian, but the Tribe (1-7) had to settle for a tie.

Mahomet-Seymour 8, Effingham 0. A glut of goals from Nolan Wheeler — that's five, plus an assist for the quick, physical senior striker — was more than enough for Mahomet-Seymour in its Apollo Conference road rout at Effingham. Brian Woodbury chipped in two goals and three assists for the Bulldogs (7-1-4).

Oakwood/Salt Fork 5, Watseka 2. A four-goal effort in the first half gave Oakwood/Salt Fork enough cushion to withstand a second-half rally from Watseka and win Tuesday's Vermilion Valley Conference match. Five different players scored for the Comets (8-6-1), with Cooper Myers, Ethan Merritt, Ty Smoot, Jacob Pricer and Macen Phillips all finding the back of the net. Brody Taflinger led O/SF with two assists, and goalkeeper Grant Brewer finished with four saves. Both Watseka goals came on penalty kicks, with Owen Avelar and Narciso Solorzano scoring for the Warriors (9-5).

St. Joseph-Ogden 4, Unity 1. Two goals apiece from Logan Mills and Alex Acosta helped St. Joseph-Ogden top Unity on Tuesday in Illini Prairie Conference action. Mills and Spencer Wilson had one assist each for the Spartans (11-3), and goalkeeper Jacek Slowikowski made one save in the win. Brendan Bachert scored Unity's lone goal on a penalty kick, and goalkeeper Cole Saunders had 10 saves for the Rockets (4-4-1).

Urbana 7, Danville 1. Urbana snapped its two-match losing streak, won its first Big 12 Conference match and got back above .500 for the season with Tuesday's blowout home win against Danville. Julio Hernandez scored twice for the Tigers (5-4-1), Emir Martinez added one goal and one assist and Fortunel Nana led the team with three assists in the six-goal victory.

In boys' golf

At Danville. Salt Fork's Kendall Shults was the top area golfer in Tuesday's event at Harrison Park Golf Course, shooting a 46 to finish fifth overall. The Storm placed second as a team, 40 strokes behind first-place Paris, as Amelia Birge shot a 47 to finish sixth on the individual leaderboard. Westville was third as a team, with Austin Shannon's 50 leading the way, Jace Boyer shot a 50 for Milford and Ross Berry had a 50 of his own for Georgetown-Ridge Farm/Chrisman.

At El Paso. Fisher's Ethan McFarling shot an 84 to finish seventh overall Tuesday at the Heart of Illinois Conference tournament at El Paso Golf Club. The only other area golfer among the top 10 individuals was LeRoy's Brycen Umstattd, who carded an 85 and tied for eighth place. Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley was the top area team, finishing fourth and 29 strokes behind new HOIC champs El Paso-Gridley.

At Pontiac. Monticello's Maddux Quick carded a 78 to finish fourth at the Illini Prairie Conference tournament and help the Sages to a second-place finish as a team. Connor Kuntz also earned all-IPC honors with a fifth-place individual finish after shooting a 79. St. Thomas More's Wilson Kirby finished with an 81 to place 10th and grab the final all-conference honor.

In girls' golf

At Danville. Milford posted its first win of the season Tuesday at Harrison Park Golf Course, topping Westville by five strokes. The Bearcats' Madisyn Laffoon shot a career-best 58 and tied for medalist honors with teammate Gracie Gregory and the Tigers' Katelyn Callahan.

At El Paso. LeRoy's Lauren Bossingham shot a 103 to tie for sixth and lead the Panthers to a fourth-place team finish at Tuesday's Heart of Illinois Conference tournament at El Paso Golf Club.

At Moweaqua. Sullivan pulled off a 1-2-3 finish to run away with the Lincoln Prairie Conference tournament title Tuesday at Moweaqua Golf Course. Ruby Haegen carded an 80 for Sullivan to earn medalist honors and was followed on the individual leaderboard by teammates Shae Ellis and Hannah Righter with matching 90s. Villa Grove's Ella Schweighart finished fourth with a 91, and Blue Ridge's Lillian Enger was sixth with a 98.

At Pontiac. St. Thomas More finished third at the Illini Prairie Conference tournament at Wolf Creek Golf Club behind a fourth-place individual finish from Ashley Wells with an 89 that earned her all-conference honors. Monticello was fifth as a team, and Megan Allen placed 10th to all earn all-conference recognition.

In boys' cross-country

At Hoopeston. Iroquois West's Owen Borders covered the 2.96-mile road course in 18 minutes, 46.56 seconds to win Tuesday's race hosted by Hoopeston Area. The Cornjerkers' Keenon Anderson was second in 19:26.29, while the Raiders also got a third-place finish from Tyler Schmidt in 19:32.60.

In girls' cross-country

At Hoopeston. Armstrong-Potomac's Kayla Crull outpaced her nearest competitor by nearly 40 seconds to win Tuesday's race in Hoopeston with a time of 23 minutes, 47.29 seconds for the 2.96-mile road course. Host Hoopeston Area had the next two finishers, with Hunter Haggan running 24:07.86 as runner-up and Claire Dixon 24:46.53 in third.

In girls' swimming and diving

At Champaign. Champaign Central won 11 of 12 events and dominated Tuesday's meet against Unit 4 rivals Centennial. Olivia Terry and Babette Bradley both won two individual events for the Maroons. Terry placed first in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2 minutes, 13.91 seconds and also won the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:16.82. Bradley notched a win in the 100-yard freestyle in 55.85 seconds and also took first in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:02.34. Brynley Wilber's victory in the 500-yard freestyle was the Chargers' only win. She placed first in 6:05.99 and beat her closest competitor by nearly 35 seconds.

At Stanford. Mahomet-Seymour won all 12 events — setting several personal records in the process — to beat Olympia 94-76 in Tuesday's dual meet. Three different Bulldogs won a pair of individual events apiece. Lainey Howard won the 200-yard freestyle in 2 minutes, 10.94 seconds and added a victory in the 500-yard freestyle in 5:53.58. Talynn O'Donnell placed first in the 200-yard individual medley in 2:22.28 before also claiming first in the 100-yard butterfly in 1:05.08. Caroline Mills was the third double winner, with victories in the 50-yard freestyle in 28.50 seconds and 100-yard breaststroke in 1:20.79.

In girls' tennis

At Urbana. Urbana won two of three doubles matches, but Mattoon took control in singles play for the 5-4 victory at Blair Park. Alisa Tangmunarunkit and Luna Morales teamed up for an 8-6 victory at No. 1 doubles for the Tigers, and Eisla Madigan and Lorelie Yau posted an 8-4 win at No. 2 doubles. Yau's 8-2 win at No. 1 singles and Morales' 8-7 (4) victory at No. 3 singles round out Urbana's positive results.
