Tuesday Seacoast roundup: Purcell's six goals get Portsmouth boys lacrosse back on track

PORTSMOUTH – The best thing to happen to Chad Vischer and the Portsmouth High School boys lacrosse team after Monday’s loss at Division I Londonderry, was to get back on the field as soon as it could.

Fortunately, the schedule had the Clippers back at home on Tuesday, and the two-team defending Division II state champions rebounded with a 16-6 win over Kingswood at Tom Daubney Field.

Ben Purcell scored a game-high six goals, and Zac Amend had three goals and one assist as Portsmouth improved to 13-1 on the season with the Division II win.

Nick Smith and Riley Colins both had two goals for Portsmouth, while Johnny Forrest, Noah de Iongh and Lucas Patten all had one. Smith and Masi Stone had two assists.

Portsmouth goalies Kai Patterson and Hobey Rolfe combined for 10 saves.

BOYS LACROSSE

Oyster River 13

Spaulding 1

ROCHESTER – Tyler Callender had three goals and two assists, and Sam Guilmette had three goals and one assist for Oyster River (8-5) in this Division II win.

Jadyn Smart and Cole Lesvesque both had two goals for the Bobcats, while Travis Faul, Will Courtland and Kavi Weber all had one. Alex Moody had an assist in the win.

GIRLS LACROSSE

St. Thomas Aquinas 21

Milford 3

DOVER - Lizzy Holden scored five goals, and Reece Anderson had four as St. Thomas won this Division III game in a rout.

Megan Leahy added three goals for the Saints, while Charlotte De Tolla, Kensley Harris and Lila Meuse all had two, and Cat Vetter, Hannah Henderson and Gracie Pettinato all had one. Vetter recorded her 100th career point in the win.

STA goalie Anna Stailey had five saves, while Juliana Grella and Ava Maddie McMahon starred defensively.

Pembroke 7

Spaulding 4

PEMBROKE – Sophia Olsen scored three goals and Kate McCawley had one for Spaulding in this Division II loss.

Hannah Raab had one assist for the Red Raiders, and goalie Izzy Orrell had 13 saves.

Traip Academy 12

Lakes Region 7

NAPLES, Maine - Senior Quinn McPherson had five goals, and sophomore Keira Alessi had four for Traip in this Class C win.

Sarah Carven added three goals for the Rangers, while goalie Charlotte Masse had 16 saves.

BASEBALL

Marshwood 3

Noble 0

NORTH BERWICK, Maine – Junior Noah Fitzgerald allowed three hits over seven innings, striking out seven for Marshwood (7-3) in this Class A South win.

Riley Parnham, Ben Garrepy and Ronan Garrett all had one hit and one RBI for the Hawks. Teammate Charlie Hudson had two hits, while Fitzgerald and Henry Dimmerling had one.

SOFTBALL

Londonderry 9

Portsmouth 7

PORTSMOUTH – The Clippers scored three runs in the seventh inning, and then left the bases loaded, falling short in this Division I game.

Jordan Ovadek’s three hits and two runs led Portsmouth, while teammates Evy Douglass (two hits, two RBIs), Emme Greco (two hits, two RBIs, run), Laura Milks (two hits, RBI, run), Abby Nersesian (two hits, RBI, run), Brigid Cadle (two hits, run), Addy Carroll (hit), Brooke Linchey (hit, RBI) and Abby Sargent (walk, run) all contributed.

Oyster River 2

Milford 1

DURHAM – Morgan Trella allowed three hits and struck out nine over seven innings for Oyster River in this Division II win.

Carly Dalton had two hits and both Bobcat RBIs, while Meagan Rinko had three hits.

St. Thomas Aquinas 17

Berlin 9

DOVER - Ashleigh von der Linden had three hits, including a home run, and three RBIs, as St. Thomas improved to 12-0 on the season with this Division III win.

Elizabeth Flynn had three three hits and scored three runs, and Abbie Gaynor and Amelia Anderson both had two hits and two RBIs, leading the Saints offense.

Also, Maddie Hoyt had two hits and scored four runs, and Abby Kosko laced a double, and Alaina Bolduc and Kaity Kelly both had one hit.

GIRLS TENNIS

Marshwood 5

Westbrook 0

SOUTH BERWICK, Maine - Lucy Parker (No. 1, 2-6, 6-2, 10-6), Tia Anderson (No. 2, 6-0, 6-0), and Sam Arnold (No. 3, 6-0, 6-2) all won in singles for Marshwood in this Class A South contest.

In doubles, Rachel Johnson and Hannah Hodges won 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1, and Ella Holland and Leah Cavanaugh won 6-0, 6-3 at No. 3.

York 3

Lakes Region 2

NAPLES, Maine – Madigan Murphy (No. 1, 6-2, 6-2), Artie Krebs (No. 2, 6-4, 6-3) and Riley Barron (No. 3, 6-1. 6-3) all won thei respective singles matches for York in this Class B South match.
