New Trojans: Wired podcast reflects on Caleb Williams’ Heisman and its historic significance for USC
Caleb Williams won the Heisman Trophy over the weekend. You might have heard about that. Let’s try to apply some context and perspective to this momentous event, USC’s eighth Heisman Trophy in school history, more than any other major college football program.
Oklahoma, Notre Dame, and Ohio State won seven Heisman Trophies. USC now has eight. That’s pretty special. What’s also special is that Lincoln Riley has coached three Heisman Trophy winners before his 40th birthday. Riley has also become the second man in the history of college football to coach Heisman Trophy winners at two different schools. (Tommy Prothro coached Terry Baker of Oregon State in 1962 and Gary Beban of UCLA in 1967.)
