Center-forward Tristan Thompson is returning to the Cavs, according to a report.

Shams Charania of The Athletic reported Thompson, 32, is coming home to where he won a championship and played on four NBA Finals teams.

Sure, the move gives the Cavs some frontcourt depth, but it can also provide a young team with a link to the recent past from a veteran who was productive and appreciated by fans. That link certainly can’t hurt the Cavs in the quest to take the next step in an NBA that can be viewed as wide open.
