Trinity bows out of Division A-Region 4 contention after nailbiter

Feb. 21—BEULAH — After a difficult loss to area rivals Shiloh Christian in the Division A-Region 4 Girls Basketball Tournament on Tuesday, Feb. 20, the Trinity Titans fall just short of making it to the North Dakota State Tournament by a measly 2 points. Trinity improved on an 8-point loss to the Skyhawks on Jan. 30, which finished at 68-60 on the road, and despite a game-high 21 points from sophomore standout Annabel Scheeler THS came up just short at 46-44.

After a narrow, 13-11 deficit in the first quarter, Trinity held Shiloh Christian to a single-digit, 8-point output in the second while putting up another 11 points and taking a razor-this, 22-21 lead into the locker rooms at the half. Scheeler kept up her torrid pace, scoring 3-pointer in the first quarter and adding another in the second on her way to 10 first-half points, while junior guard Nevaeh Tormaschy scored 8 points of her own to help pace the Titans.

Junior guard Payge Schock scored 8 points in the first half and Elizabeth Hatlestad combined with Dedra Wood to score 4 apiece and keep the game close.

The third quarter proved to be a difference-maker for THS, as junior Emma Duffy notched a trey and Hatlestad added 5 more and the Skyhawks outscored Trinity, 16-12, despite a pair of 3s from Scheeler and 6 second-half points to add to Tormaschy's double-digit 14 on the night.

No other Titan athlete came close to double-digits in the game, while Schock and Wood came in with 10 each for the Skyhawks.

Next-up for THS will be the third-place game to be played at Beulah High School on Thursday, Feb. 22, 2024 at 4:30 p.m. MST., while Shiloh Christian will play Watford City in the subsequent matchup.
