Tremendous 10 poll: These top efforts keeping spring sports teams alive

Polk County had nine baseball or softball teams stay alive last week in the playoffs, and had numerous outstanding efforts in regional track and field meets.

Some of the top performances are here in this week's Tremendous 10 poll.

The voting will be open until noon on Thursday. In last week's poll, Fort Meade softball player Marleigh Carroll won with 37.1 percent of the vote.

Regional track and field: Tahjana South, Chelsi Williams lead Polk County track & field efforts in FHSAA regionals

George Jenkins junior Chelsi Williams (girls track and field) won four events at the Class 4A, Region 2 track and field meet. She won the long jump (20 feet, 0.25 inches), the triple jump (40-8.25), 100 hurdles (13.61 seconds) and the 400 hurdles (1:01.3).

Bartow senior Red Oxley (softball) hit two home runs and drove in four runs to go along with her four innings of no-hit pitching with 10 strikeouts and one walk against East River. For the season, she is batting .333 with eight extra-base hits and a team-high 28 RBIs and is 14-1 with a 0.15 ERA.

Lakeland Christian senior Conor Browne (baseball) batted .500 with a home run, two RBIs and the game-winning sacrifice fly against Mount Dora Christian. For the season, he is batting .311 with two home runs and 21 RBIs.

Lakeland junior Tajhana South (girls track and field) won the triple jump with a personal-record 38 feet 11 inches and the long jump (17-6.75), and she also finished second in the 400 at the 3A-2 region meet.

Mulberry junior Hayden Wyatt (baseball) batted .667 (4-for-6) with a double, a home run, six RBIs and two runs scored to help lead the Panthers to this week’s regional finals. For the season, he is batting .384 with 10 extra-base hits and 29 RBIs.

Lake Wales junior Jamie Sepsick (softball) batted .500 (2-for-4) with two RBIs. For the season, she is batting .360 with 27 RBIs.

George Jenkins junior Armani Cozza (baseball) batted .600 with a double and four runs scored in two games and also threw out a runner at the plate. For the season, he is batting .375 with 13 RBIs and 25 runs scored.

Winter Haven junior Dashanique Henry (girls track and field) won the 400 in 55.44 seconds, finished second in the long jump (19-9.5) and took fifth in the 200 at the 4A-2 meet.

Fort Meade sophomore Cailyn Johnson (softball) went 2-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs in the Miners' 5-4 win over Lakeland Christian in the regional quarterfinals. For the season, she is batting .403 with three home runs and 39 RBIs.

Lake Region senior Elisa Charles (softball) went 3 for 3 with a double, RBI and two runs scored in the Thunder’s regional quarterfinal victory over Citrus.
