These Track and Field stars vaulted over the competition: the 2023 girls All-Stars

Local athletes made names for themselves with star-studded performances and trophy-towing moments this past spring.

After combing over statistics and results, and with the guidance of local athletic directors and coaches, we at the Daily News selected All-Stars for baseball, softball, boys and girls lacrosse, boys volleyball, boys and girls tennis and boys and girls track and field.

Although the sports and skill sets may vary, there’s no denying that this group put up otherworldly numbers this spring while helping their respective teams find success – whether that be on the diamond, field, court or track.

Without further ado, the Daily News presents its 2023 All-Stars for girls track & field:

Ella Bosselman, Holliston

This senior completed a career in which she was named to eight Tri-Valley League All-Star teams across all running seasons. Bosselman was team MVP this spring after running personal bests of 5:10 in the mile and 11:16 in the 2-mile. She placed second in the 2-mile, third in the mile and ran on the winning 4x800 relay at the Division 4 state meet. The National Honor Society member was a club swimmer for four years and is a lifeguard/swim instructor. Bosselman will run track and cross country at UMass-Amherst, where she will study kinesiology.

This junior earned the team’s MVP award and is also a Tri-Valley League All-Star. She placed third in the high jump and fourth in the pentathlon at the Division 5 state meet. In her first attempt at the event, Campbell placed fourth at the MSTCA heptathlon with 3,274 points. She competed at the Meet of Champions and New Balance Nationals. Campbell is also a volleyball captain and is a figure skater. “Jaina is a very talented, multi-dimensional track athlete,” said coach Mary Ellen Hassenfuss. “She could probably do almost any event with some practice.”

In her first season of outdoor track, this junior went undefeated in the 100, 200, shot put and as part of the 4x100 relay during the regular season, earning team MVP and TVL All-Star awards. Canty scored 57.5 points in five regular season meets to lead the team to another undefeated season, a streak that dates to 2001. She runs a crafting club at school. “She works hard on the track, in the circle, and in the weight room and juggles a lot of events, always doing whatever is needed for the team,” said coach Jean Cann.

Annie Comella, Wellesley

Comella set the school’s long jump record and won the Division 2 state championship with a meet-record leap of 18 feet, 1.25 inches. This sophomore finished in the top 15 at New Balance Nationals and was second at the Meet of Champions. Comello finished second in the 200 meters at Division 2 States and is a Bay State Conference All-Star. She also plays varsity soccer and suits up for the New England Futball Club, where her team was a National finalist in 2022.

This junior won the Division 1 state discus championship and was third in the shot put, holding school records in both events. The Hockomock League All-Star qualified for New Balance Nationals in both events and was named to the team’s Coaches Award and owns the school record in the shot put (39 feet, 2.25 inches). Deforge won the Hockomock title in the discus and was third in the shot put. She placed second in the shot put at the MSTCA Twilight Meet. “Lily Deforge is an outstanding and accomplished thrower,” said coach Paul Trovato.

This junior is part of five school records, setting marks in the high jump (5 feet, 4.25 inches), 100 hurdles (16.71), pentathlon (2,171 points) and part of the 4x100 and 4x100 hurdle relays. She won the Mayflower Conference long jump title and is a league All-Star. Denelle placed second in the Division 6 state high jump competition and placed 11th at the Meet of Champions. She finished seventh at New Balance Nationals in the Rising Stars division. Denelle plays piano and enjoys art and plans to run track in college while studying to become a lawyer.

Desmarais was named team MVP and Female Athlete of the Year at Framingham High. This junior placed fourth in the 200 meters and second in the 100 at the Meet of Champions. Won state and league titles in the 100 and finished second in the 200 at States. The four-time team MVP has set 10 school records and is a four-time Daily News All-Star. The National Honor Society member was the Junior Book Award winner and was nominated to attend the Sophomore Leadership Summit. She volunteered at a holiday gift drive and at trash cleanups.

Dumas earned All-America honors after placing second at New Balance Nationals in the pentathlon. She was ranked first in the state for the pentathlon and 100 hurdles and second in the 400 hurdles. Dumas won the pentathlon at the Meet of Champions. This junior holds four school outdoor records and won Hockomock League titles in the 100 hurdles, 400 hurdles and high jump, earning league MVP honors. She plays guitar and piano and coaches youth track with Franklin Recreation. The two-time New Balance All-American hopes to run track in college and study biological sciences.

With a pole vault personal record of 12 feet, 7 inches, this senior won championships all spring long. Haagensen started out winning the Mid-Wach title before taking the District E crown. She cleared 12-7 at the Division 3 state meet, winning the event by more than a foot. She also placed third in the long jump at States after winning the league title. Haagensen also finished fifth in the 100 hurdles at States. She will study biochemistry at Colgate, where she will also compete on the track team.

The 800-meter champion at the Division 4 state meet, this sophomore also placed second in the 2-mile. She ran a leg on the winning 4x800 team as the Panthers placed in a tie for third. Kuchman won the mile and 800 at the TVL Showcase and ran a season best mile of 5:10 at the MSTCA Jim Hoar meet. She is the student body treasurer, a National Honor Society member and a Principal’s List student who referees youth and club soccer.

This Holy Cross-bound senior owns the school record in the pole vault (12 feet) and helped Natick set a state record at the State Relays. Peasley placed second at Division 2 States and was ninth in the high jump. She finished in a tie for second at the Meet of Champions. In five varsity seasons of track, Peasley was named team MVP three times. “Alyssa is one of the most well-rounded athletes I have had the privilege to work with,” said coach Tori Zamarra. “She is hard working, dedicated, enthusiastic, and team oriented.”

This sophomore is a two-time school record holder in the long jump for both indoor and outdoor track and a three-time Dual County League champion. She was the Jim Hoar Freshman-Sophomore Invitational champion and was the runner-up at the Division 2 meet, where she also placed eighth. Pierre finished fourth at the Meet of Champions in the long jump. She is a three-time national qualifier and two-time New England qualifier. She also plays varsity and club volleyball and was previously a gymnast for 12 years.

Srodawa went undefeated in the 2-mile during regular season and also won the mile twice. In the 2-mile, this sophomore won the Freshman-Sophomore meet and the TVL Showcase, placed fifth (11:13 personal best) in Division 2 and eighth at the Meet of Champions on a 90-degree day. Named team’s Track Athlete of the Year and a TVL All-Star. “She grinds out the miles at practice daily and on her own over the summer,” said coach Jean Cann. “She is not afraid to stick her nose in and compete with the best.”

This senior captain was runner-up in the TVL Showcase in the 2-mile and finished sixth at the Division 2 meet in a personal best 11:13.88. The TVL All-Star ran legs on the fourth-place 4x1,600 and distance medley relay teams at MSTCA Division 2 Relay Championship. Tumbleton was a letter winner in outdoor, indoor and cross country in every season of high school. She will attend UMass-Amherst. “Autumn leads by example and makes others around her better,” said coach Jean Cann. “Her consistent strong performances over the last four years despite COVID interruptions are remarkable.”

The Bay State Conference All-Star placed second in both the 800 and the mile at the Meet of Champions. This sophomore’s mile best is 4:55 and for the 800, it is 2:15. Tuxbury helped the Raiders win the Division 2 state title. She competes in indoor track, winning the state mile crown in February, and cross country, where she finished 19th at States. She is a member of the National Charity League and enjoys hiking and swimming. Tuxbury plans to run in college.

This University of New Hampshire-bound senior was named a Dual County League All-Star after winning the league’s pentathlon and 100 hurdles titles and placing second in the 400 hurdles. Williams set school records in the 400 hurdles (65.02 seconds), heptathlon (3,884 points) and pentathlon (2,692 points). She was fifth in the 400 hurdles at the Meet of Champions and placed second in the MSCTA heptathlon. The L-S scholar is a member of the Cum Laude Society and plans to study nursing at UNH with the hopes of becoming a psychiatric mental-health nurse practitioner.
