Tornado Sirens Blare in Providence Amid Severe Storm

Weather officials issued a tornado warning for Providence, Rhode Island, on Friday, August 18, amid severe thunderstorms in parts of New England.

The National Weather Service (NWS) warned of an observed tornado and quarter-sized hail. Tornado warnings were also issued for parts of Massachusetts.

Severe thunderstorm warnings for parts of Rhode Island were also issued on Friday morning, as weather officials said wind gusts reached up to 60 mph. A flash flood warning was also in place for northern Providence County and areas of Massachusetts.
