Top two teams from each region advance to SoDak 16 state-qualifying games on March 5

The girls had their turn. Now it's time for the boys.

Area Class A and B boys basketball teams will open their bids to qualify for state tournaments by participating in region tourneys this week.

Area squads will compete in the Region 1B, 2B, 6B, 1A, 2A and 6A with the top two teams advancing to SoDak 16 state-qualifying matches on Tuesday, March 5.

Winners of the SoDak 16 games qualify for state tourneys March 14-16 at the Summit Arena at The Monument in Rapid City (Class A) and the Barnett Center in Aberdeen (Class B).

Here are the region pairings for area teams:

Girls Basketball:: State-qualifying basketball games scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 29

Region 1A

Tuesday — At Groton: No. 1 Groton Area (16-4) vs. No. 8 Redfield (1-19), 6 p.m. and No. 4 Waubay-Summit (14-6) vs. No. 5 Aberdeen Roncalli (13-7), 7:30 p.m. At Milbank: No 2 Milbank (15-5) vs. No. 7 Sisseton (3-17), 6 p.m. and No. 3 Tiospa Zina (13-7) vs. No. 6 Webster Area (8-12), 7:30 p.m.

Thursday — Semifinals. Site and times to be determined.

Region 2A

Monday — No. 9 Elkton-Lake Benton (7-13) at No. 8 Florence-Henry (10-10), 7 p.m. at Florence.

Tuesday — Florence-Henry/Elkton-Lake Benton winner at No. 1 Hamlin (17-3), No. 5 Clark-Willow Lake (10-10) at No. 4 Great Lutheran (13-7), No. 7 Deuel (8-12) at No. 2 Sioux Valley (18-2) and No. 6 Estelline-Hendricks (11-9) at No. 3 Flandreau (18-2). All games at 7 p.m.

Thursday — Semifinals. Site and times to be determined.

Region 6A

Tuesday — McLaughlin: No. 5 Dupree (9-10) vs. No. 4 Mobridge-Pollock (12-8), 7 p.m. and No. 8 North Central (6-14) vs. No. 1 McLaughlin (14-6), 9 p.m.; Eagle Butte: No. 6 Crow Creek (8-12) vs. No. 3 Stanley County (13-7), 6:30 p.m. and No. 7 Miller (6-14) vs. No. 2 Cheyenne-Eagle Butte (12-7), 8:30 p.m.

Friday — Semifinals. Sites and times to be determined.

Region 1B

Monday — No. 9 Langford Area (0-20) at No. 8 Wilmot (15-5), 7 p.m.

Tuesday — Wilmot-Langford Area winner at No. 1 Leola-Frederick Area (19-1), No. 5 Hitchcock-Tulare (8-12) at No. 5 Warner (9-11), No. 7 Northwestern (5-15) at No. 2 Aberdeen Christian (14-6) and No. 6 Britton-Hecla (4-16) at No. 3 Waverly-South Shore (14-6). All games at 7 p.m.

Friday — Times and sites to be determined.

Region 2B

Monday — No. 9 Flandreau Indian School (0-17) at No. 8 Arlington (3-17), 6 p.m.

Tuesday — At De Smet: FIS-Arlington winner vs. No. 1 De Smet (17-3), 6 p.m. and No. 5 James Valley Christian (11-9) vs. No. 4 Deubrook Area (10-10), appoximately 7:30 p.m. At Castlewood: No. 7 Oldham-Ramona-Rutland (4-16) vs. No. 2 Castlewood (17-3), 6 p.m. and No. 6 Iroquois-Lake Preston (4-16) vs. No. 3 Wolsey_Wessington (16-4), 7:30 p.m.

Friday — Semifinals in the Huron Arena. De Smet winners at 6 p.m. and Castlewood winners at 7:30 p.m.

Region 6B

Monday — No. 9 Sunshine Bible Academy (1-16) at No. 8 Herreid-Selby Area (3-17).

Tuesday — SBA-HSA winner at No. 1 Faulkton Area (14-5), No. 5 Highmore-Harrold (11-9) at No. 4 Ipswich (12-8), No. 7 Lyman (5-15) at No. 2 Potter County (13-7) and No. 6 Sully Buttes (9-11) at No. 3 Lower Brule (10-9).

Thursday — Semifinals. Sites and times to be determined.
