5 — Silvery foam in stellar state swimming showing

Going into the 2022-23 swim season, everyone knew the Bartlesville High girls squad boasted some exceptional individual skills. But, what would they add up to as an ultra-competitive team? The answered turned out to be an unqualified “Yes!” Bartlesville chased the Jenks powerhouse all season — and nearly overtook it at the Class 6A state meet. Jenks won the team title with 318.5 points; Bartlesville seized second with 318. Just one-half point separated the underdog, undermanned warriors from Bartlesville tying Jenks for the high honor. Perhaps most impressive was Bartlesville’s showing in the girls 200-yard individual medley. Of the top seven spots, Bartlesville claimed four of them — Calli Richards (4th), Annabelle Droege (5th), Lily Talbot (6th) and Ashlynn Taylor (7th). Their combined point total in the event added up to 54 — or more than one-sixth of their final tally for all 11 events. Other Bartlesville High lights included Richardson bolting to the silver medal in the 100 breast and fourth in the 200 I.M.; Emma Howze finishing third and 200 free and fourth in the 100 free; Gabrielle Burke powering for fourth in the 500 free; and Taylor taking fourth in the 100 backstroke. Bartlesville also nailed down second in the 200 and 400 freestyle relays and third in 200 medley relay. Regan Patzkowski was one of the unsung heroes in the relays.
