Top Somerset County baseball, softball, tennis, track and field performers for May 8-12

Thursday

Baseball

Somerset 10, Central Cambria 2: Brad Bruner produced two hits, three RBIs and two runs scored as the Golden Eagles rolled past the Red Devils.

Nolan Riggs and Aiden VanLenten each had two RBIs for Somerset. Kahne Foltz delivered three hits while Zane Hagans and Owen Miller each tallied two hits. VanLenten allowed one unearned run on six hits and struck out five in six innings of work.

Berlin Brothersvalley 17, Conemaugh Valley 2 (3): Parker Black and Nick Koval each contributed three RBIs as the Mountaineers clobbered the Blue Jays.

Black allowed two runs on two hits, one walk and struck out three. Pace Prosser had four hits, an RBI and four runs scored. Cale Kosic and Craig Jarvis each provided two hits and two RBIs. Haydon Hutzell added two hits, an RBI and two runs.

Berlin Brothersvalley 13, Turkeyfoot 3 (6): Levi Leonard produced two hits, five RBIs and a run scored for the Mountaineers in a triumph over the Rams.

Haydon Hutzell had three hits, three RBIs and two runs scored for Berlin. He struck out five over five innings. Pace Prosser and Craig Jarvis each contributed three hits, an RBI and three runs scored.

North Star 5, Ferndale 4: Cayden Turner homered, drove in two runs and scored once as the Cougars downed the Yellow Jackets.

Andy Retassie had two hits, an RBI and a run scored for North Star. Glendon Griffith pitched 5⅔ innings allowing four unearned runs on six hits, one walk and struck out 10. Connor Yoder tossed 1⅓ innings of no-hit ball to pick up the save.

Conemaugh Township 14, Windber 3 (5): Conemaugh Township erupted for 11 first-inning runs to roll past Windber.

Aiden Prior went 2-for-3 with three RBIs for Conemaugh Township. Luke Haight recorded three RBIs. Tyler Weber added two hits and two RBIs. Zack Petree and Tanner Shirley each drove in two runs. Colin Dinyar got the win.

Windber's Lucas Oleksa was 3-for-3 with a run scored.

Softball

Ferndale 14, North Star 6: Grace Metz recorded three hits, two RBIs and a run scored for the Cougars in a setback to the Yellow Jackets.

Kyra Turner provided two hits for North Star.

Windber 9, Conemaugh Township 1: Angel James went 4-for-4 with four RBIs to lead the Ramblers to a victory.

Nici Costlow tallied two hits, including a double and three RBIs while Skylee Miller went 4-for-4 for Windber. Miller struck out nine.

Rourie Stankan recorded two hits for Conemaugh Township. Sierra LaPorta struck out eight over five innings.

Central Cambria 8, Somerset 1: Willa Sharbaugh hit an inside-the-park home run for the Golden Eagles in a setback to the unbeaten Red Devils.

Mckenna Sheeler, Gracie Bowers and Brooklynn Thomas each hit safely for Somerset.

Conemaugh Valley 4, Berlin Brothersvalley 0: Sydney Walker tripled for the Mountaineers in a setback to the Blue Jays.

Baseball

Conemaugh Township 10, Berlin Brothersvalley 5: Tyler Weber had a hit and three RBIs as Conemaugh Township doubled up Berlin.

Tanner Shirley tallied two hits and an RBI while Colin Dinyar added a pair of hits, including a home run and an RBI for Conemaugh Township. Larry Weaver gave up three runs and struck out six over five innings.

Craig Jarvis and Levi Leonard each had two hits and an RBI while Haydon Hutzell added a hit and two RBIs for Berlin.

Rockwood 6, Conemaugh Township 5: Johnathan Felesky homered and drove in two runs as Rockwood topped Conemaugh Township.

Nathan Show drove in two runs while Hunter Whipkey provided two hits and an RBI for Rockwood.

Tanner Shirley had two hits and an RBI while Larry Weaver hit a home run for Conemaugh Township.

Ferndale 8, Windber 7: Joe Reynolds recorded two hits, including a double and three RBIs for the Ramblers in a setback to the Yellow Jackets.

Lucas Oleksa went 3-for-3 with an RBI double and three runs scored for Windber. Rex Rininger added two hits and an RBI. He pitched 4⅔ innings, allowing one earned run on three hits and struck out 13.

Somerset 6, Bishop Carroll 1: Owen Miller delivered three doubles, two RBIs and three runs scored to lift the Golden Eagles over the Huskies.

Aiden VanLenten added two hits and two RBIs for Somerset. Brad Bruner allowed one run on five hits, one walk and struck out nine in a complete-game performance.

Meyersdale 15, Turkeyfoot 4: Ryan Sechler and Lucas Brown combined for a 10-strikeout no-hitter, as the Red Raiders romped the Rams.

Sechler added two hits, four RBIs and two runs scored while Dylan Teets provided two hits, three RBIs and two runs.

Meyersdale 2, Shanksville-Stonycreek 1: Tyler Sandy and Karter Schurg each provided a hit and an RBI for the Red Raiders in a narrow victory over the Vikings.

Meyersdale's Bradin Schrock tossed a complete game, allowing one unearned run on two hits, three walks and struck out five.

Shanksville's Isaac Jamison pitched six innings, allowing two runs, one earned on six hits and four walks.

Softball

Meyersdale 11, Conemaugh Township 0 (5): Izabella Donaldson went 3-for-3, including two home runs and five RBIs to guide the Red Raiders to a commanding victory.

Amber Long recorded three hits, including a home run while Amelia Kretchman added two hits. Laurel Daniels allowed just two hits, one walk and struck out four.

Meyersdale 17, Turkeyfoot 2 (3): Amelia Kretchman and Kendell Donaldson each recorded three hits as the Red Raiders routed the Rams.

Morgan Walters, Shelby Hetz and Laurel Daniels each had two hits for Meyersdale.

Shade 11, Berlin Brothersvalley 5: Tara Corradini went 3-for-4 with four RBIs and two runs scored to propel the Panthers past the Mountaineers.

Laiken Orner went 4-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI for Shade. Jenna Muha tallied two hits and two RBIs while Jaedyn Krupper added two hits and an RBI.

Sydney Walker hit a 3-run home for Berlin. Mikaela Huston had two hits and scored twice while Elsie Barna drove in two runs.

Conemaugh Valley 3, Windber 1: Delanie Davison allowed just one hit, a triple to Kaylie Gaye, as the Blue Jays edged the Ramblers.

Somerset 11, Bishop Carroll 1 (5): Gracie Bowers went 3-for-3 with three RBIs to lead the Golden Eagles past the Huskies.

Chloe Miller recorded two hits and two RBIs while Riley Wiencek, Mckenna Sheeler, Willa Sharbaugh and Brooklynn Thomas each added two hits for Somerset. Sheeler allowed four hits, one walk and struck out nine.

Tennis

Somerset knocked off Bedford 3-2 to claim the District 5 Class 2A team championship at Bedford High School.

In singles, Liam Egal won 7-6 (7-2), 6-1. Giuseppe Castonovo was victorious 6-4, 5-7, 6-1.

Meanwhile, the doubles pair of Josiah Antram and Ben Witt won a thriller 7-6 (9-7), 7-6 (7-2).

Baseball

Blacklick Valley 9, Windber 4: Lucas Oleksa went 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs for the Ramblers in a setback to the Vikings.

Angelo Campitell hit a solo home run for Windber.

North Star 12, Conemaugh Valley 1 (5): Parker Scherer tallied three hits and three RBIs to lead the Cougars past the Blue Jays.

Connor Yoder and Vance Kimmel each had two hits for North Star. Cayden Turner allowed one run on four hits, one walk and struck out eight.

Meyersdale 7, Shanksville-Stonycreek 4: Tyler Sandy recorded two hits and four RBIs to propel the Mountaineers over the Vikings.

Lars Murray had an RBI and scored two runs for Meyersdale. Braden Kretchman struck out nine over five innings to earn the win.

Christian Musser led Shanksville with two hits, an RBI and a run scored. Ian Fox added two hits.

Softball

Windber 9 Blacklick Valley 7: Summer Campbell went 3-for-5, including a triple to help the Ramblers past the Vikings.

Kaylie Gaye tallied three hits for Windber. Skylee Miller doubled twice and picked up the win in the circle while Angel James added two hits, including a double.

Meyersdale 10, Ferndale 0 (5): Marcella Dupre tallied three hits, including a double and two triples for the Red Raiders in a shutout of the Yellow Jackets.

Izabella Donaldson, Shelby Hetz, Amber Long, Jessica Daughton and Morgan Walters each had two hits for Meyersdale. Donaldson allowed one hit and struck out 11.

Conemaugh Valley 15, North Star 2: The Blue Jays upended the Cougars in a WestPAC North contest.

No stats were provided.

Somerset 15, Greater Johnstown 0 (4): Mckenna Sheeler tossed a no-hitter, striking out six as the Golden Eagles blanked the Trojans.

Sheeler singled, doubled and drove in four runs. Riley Wiencek provided three hits and five RBIs.

Berlin Brothersvalley 19, Hyndman 4 (3): Nick Koval recorded three hits, three RBIs and scored four runs as the Mountaineers hammered the Hornets.

Pace Prosser had two hits and three RBIs while Cory Jose, Parker Black and Cale Kosic each contributed two RBIs.

Indiana 11, Somerset 5: Owen Miller and Aiden VanLenten each had a hit and an RBI for the Golden Eagles in a non-conference setback.

Windber 13, Conemaugh Valley 0 (5): Andrew Scalia allowed one hit over five innings and struck out 13 as the Ramblers blanked the Blue Jays.

Scalia hit a 2-run home run. Lucas Oleksa went 2-for-2 with a double and two runs.

United 8, Conemaugh Township 3: Larry Weaver tallied two hits and two RBIs for Conemaugh Township in a non-conference setback.

Zack Petree added two hits for Conemaugh Township.

Meyersdale 11, Shade 1 (5): Izabella Donaldson recorded two hits, including a home run to reach 100 hits for her career in the Red Raiders' triumph over the Panthers.

Donaldson allowed three hits and struck out 11. Amber Long and Laurel Daniels each produced two hits for Meyersdale.

Berlin Brothersvalley 11, North Star 1 (6): Sydney Walker provided three hits, including a double, an RBI and two runs scored as the Mountaineers clobbered the Cougars.

Walker pitched three scoreless innings to earn the win. Kira Milburn had two hits and two RBIs while Rori Allen added two RBIs.

Kayley Brant tallied two hits for North Star.

Rockwood 21, Turkeyfoot 4 (4): Adeline Barkman delivered four hits, three RBIs and a run scored as the Rockets routed the Rams.

Jaden Gross had two hits, including a double and four RBIs. Kalynne Ohler doubled, drove in three runs and scored three times while Carissa Pletcher and Taylor Demchak each chipped in two RBIs.

Kiley Mitchell doubled and drove in two runs for Turkeyfoot.

Ferndale 7, Windber 2: Angelina Wagner struck out 15 and reached 400 punch outs for her career as the Yellow Jackets topped the Ramblers.

Somerset blanks Bishop Guilfoyle in double header: In Game 1, Brooklynn Thomas tossed a perfect game, striking out seven as the Golden Eagles mauled the Marauders 15-0 in three innings.

Thomas hit a 3-run homer. Riley Wiencek doubled and tripled, and Emily Rush added two hits.

In Game 2, Thomas pitched a 1-hitter with six strikeouts in a 20-0 3-inning triumph.

Willa Sharbaugh doubled and tripled. Ava Baumgardner and Thomas each produced two hits.

Tennis

Somerset senior Liam Egal defeated Bedford's Tristen Ruffley 6-1, 6-4 to claim his second straight District 5 Class 2A singles title at Bedford High School.

Softball

Meyersdale 11, Mountain Ridge 1 (5): Izabella Donaldson and Amber Long each delivered two hits, including a home run as the Red Raiders picked up a non-conference victory.

Marcella Dupre and Zoe Hetz added two hits apiece for Meyersdale. Donaldson struck out 11 over four inings.
