Top performers from South Jersey softball from second week of May

Here are some of the last week's top performers on diamonds across our seven-county coverage area in South Jersey.

Burlington County Scholastic League

Kyra Griffith, Pennsauken. The senior reached base 11 times in 12 plate appearances and stolen five bases as Pennsauken went 3-0 and moved within a win of the outright division title. Griffith went 6-for-7 with five walks and scored 10 times. She leads the tribe with 30 runs scored and eight stolen bases.

Emily Clauss, Westampton Tech. This hit machine continued to churn out the knocks as she picked up three multi-hit games last week. She has a hit in 14 of WT’s 15 games, including nine multi-hit contests. Clauss is batting .522 with 24 hits, including 16 for extra-bases, and 24 RBIs.

Abigail Todd, Northern Burlington. The senior batted .500 with a triple and three RBIs as the Greyhounds finished off their BCSL schedule with two wins and the Liberty Division title. Todd took over the team lead in RBIs with 15.

Colonial Conference

Gracie Granate, Haddon Heights. The senior southpaw struck out 16 en route to a four-hit shutout in a 3-0 win over Collingswood on May 7. She helped her own cause with two RBIs in the game. Granate also went 3-for-3 with two RBIs in a victory over Sterling two days later. In the circle, Granate has recorded 132 strikeouts in 79 innings and a ERA south of 1.70.

Bobbie Mayer, Gateway. The senior went 4-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs as the Gators picked up a 7-5 win over Paulsboro on May 9.

Emma Speyerer, Audubon. With five hits for the week, the sophomore went .500 for the week and kept her season batting average over .500 as well. She had a homer and three RBIs against Collingswood on May 8 and had two hits and three stolen bases in a loss to Egg Harbor Township on May 11. Speyerer has 10 multi-hit games this spring and owns 62 hits and 47 stolen bases in her career.

Milestone: West Deptford’s Isabella Kwashek joined the 100-career hit club on May 3. In the circle, the senior has struck out over 600 batters in her scholastic career.

Olympic Conference

Madison Cooley, Paul VI. The senior picked up a pair of wins in the circle, including a three-hit shutout with no walks and six strikeouts over rival Camden Catholic. She was productive at the plate too, going 5-for-11 with two RBIs and two runs scored as the Eagles went 3-0 for the week.

Kasey McNee, Cherokee. With five hits, five runs scored and four RBIs, the sophomore provided plenty of punch in Cherokee’s lineup during a 3-0 stretch last week. The stretch helped lift McNee’s season batting average north of .400 and she slugged her first scholastic homer of her career.

Gianna Simone, Rancocas Valley. The junior delivered three multi-hit games to power the Red Devils. She went 2-for-3 with a homer and three RBIs in a win against Eastern on May 6 and added two more hits along with two runs scored and two RBIs the following day in a victory over Cherry Hill East.

Tri-County Conference

Isabella Farina, Pennsville. One of the key cogs on a surging Pennsville squad, the senior drove in 10 runs in four games last week, including a two-homer, seven-RBI performance in a win against Triton. Farina is hitting .569 with 27 RBIs and 26 runs scored for the Eagles, who have won nine in a row. She has five multi-hit games during the winning stretch.

Tulana Mingin, Woodstown. This Wolverine just keeps on hitting. The senior went 7-for-12 with six runs scored as Woodstown stopped a three-game losing streak with a three-game winning streak last week. Mingin owns a batting average north of .600 with 31 hits and 28 runs scored this spring. She has 128 career hits.

Ava Paoletti, Kingsway. The senior went 5-for-9 with three RBIs and a run scored as the Dragons got back on track with three straight wins. Paoletti has already matched her career-high for RBIs in a season with 19.

Cape-Atlantic League

Alyssa Bailey, Absegami. After seeing her 15-game hitting streak snapped on May 2, the junior bounced back in a big way with five hits in two victories last week. Bailey went 5-for-6 with five runs scored and three stolen bases. She batting an eye-popping .652 with 43 hits, 37 runs scored and 42 RBIs. She boasts nine games with three or more hits.

Morgan Harrell-Alvarez, Vineland. A sparkplug atop the Fighting Clan lineup, the senior delivered six hits, eight runs scored and four stolen bases as the squad picked up for more wins and extended winning streak to 16. Harrell-Alvarez has 31 knocks this spring, raising her career total to 111 with a .472 batting average.

Camryn Johnson, Buena. The senior batted .462 with four runs scored and four RBIs as Buena went 3-1 for the week. For the season, she’s been an on-base machine, hitting .491 with 26 hits, 18 walks and 20 stolen bases. Johnson also leads the team with 29 runs scored.

Denver Obermeyer, Mainland. The Mustangs picked up two big wins over Hammonton and Egg Harbor Township, both by 4-3 counts. The senior played a pivotal role in each game, driving in two runs against Hammonton and collecting three hits, including a homer, against EHT. Obermeyer is batting .468 with six homers and 13 RBIs.
