Top Performers: See who dominated high school boys and girls spring sports in Montgomery

We are at the midway point of the spring sports season with baseball, softball and soccer heating up. Here’s a list of the Montgomery-area high school top performers from the week's action.

Baseball

Montgomery Academy defeats Saint James in 2-1 area series this week.

Montgomery Academy’s Ware McCollum struck out six batters in a 11-7 game two victory over Saint James. Parker Cook, John Allen Jones and Camp Shanahan finished with two RBIs each for the Eagles. Rick McBride added an RBI.

Montgomery Academy’s Andrew Hosein led with three RBIs in a 7-6 game three victory over Saint James. Jones added two RBIs and Luke Jones finished with an RBI.

Boys Golf

Montgomery Academy golf team and Trinity tied for 1st in the MCC City Invitational. The field included; Montgomery Academy, Trinity, Alabama Christian Academy, Saint James. Both Montgomery Academy and Trinity had a team score of 305. Low man for Montgomery Academy was Jackson McIntyre Scoring a 74-William Hall 75-Connor Evans 76-Thomas Floyd 80-Mac Freeman 81 Individuals-Joe Drumwright 82-John Carson Bullard 88-Jackson Williams 89

Boys Soccer

Montgomery Ethan Yi had a hat trick in the first half of a 10-0 victory over Russell County. The second half ended early with three more goals from the Eagles - Brewer Welch started the half with a goal and Jacob Stubblefield finished out the game with two goals. Goal Keeper Hampton Welch finished with three saves during the match.

Girls Soccer

Montgomery Academy’s Sophia Cho led with four goals scored in a 11-0 victory over Russell County. Lauren Jones finished with a hat trick.

Saint James Katie Brightwell scored four goals in a 7-0 victory over Alabama Christian. Hope McCain added two goals and Natalie Barton scored the final goal. Katie Irving recorded her 4th shutout of the season in the goal.

Trinity’s Ella Wiswall scored four goals in a 9-1 victory over Prattville Christian. Cameron Stanley added two goals scored. Avery Rogers scored the only goal for Prattville Christian.

Softball

Prattville Christian’s Laura Beth NeSmith and Holley Beth Rollan combined for a perfect game with eight strikeouts in a 17-0 victory over Wilcox Central. Chloe Hollon was perfect with four RBIs with one of those being a three run homer. Kandice Crosby added three RBI’s and Peyton Thrash finished with one RBI.

Tennis

Montgomery Academy No. 1 doubles team of John Alford and Jackson Brown defeated Catholic’s No. 1 doubles team of Cooper Davis and Max Freeman to lead the Eagles to a 7-2 victory. The doubles teams of Ron Sharma /Ford Morano and Anton Yang/Bo Johnston also won matches. Singles winners for Montgomery Academy were Jackson Brown, Edwin Wu, Anton Yang and Duncam McInnes. Singles winners for Catholic were Cooper Davis and Cole Gillet.

Trinity Presbyterian finished second place in the McGill Toolen Invitational tennis tournament in Mobile. The Wildcats defeated Birmingham's John Carroll High and Lafayette (Louisiana) High before falling in a close 5-4 match to Hewitt-Trussville in the finals. The No. 1 doubles team of brothers Samuel and James Treadwell continued their undefeated season by winning all three matches. James Treadwell finished undefeated on the season at No. 2 singles. This is his fifth consecutive undefeated regular singles season.
