Top Performers: See who dominated high school boys and girls winter and spring sports in Montgomery

The Alabama high school basketball regular season has ended. Area tournaments started Friday, marking the beginning of postseason play for River Region teams around the city.

The tennis and soccer seasons have also begun to kickoff the spring sports season. Here’s a list of the Montgomery-area high school top performers from the week's action.

Girls basketball

Laakeside’s Chloe Helms finished with 26 points, six assists and three steals in a 49-42 victory over Hooper Academy in overtime to get to the AISA elite 8. Addy Helms added 11 points, six steals and five assists.

Montgomery Academy’s Kaci Armistead finished with 27 points in a 37-35 loss to Wetumpka. Sophia Cho added 12 points.

Prattville Christian’s Ally Blankinchip led the Lady Panthers with 19 points, seven steals, and five rebounds in a 64-23 victory over Montgomery Academy. Avery Rogers added 11 points, seven steals and six rebounds. Kayden Carr scored 10 points, with 10 rebounds and four steals.

Saint James Natalie Barton finished with 18 points, five rebounds and four steals in a 57-46 victory over Pike Road. Ava Card added 17 points, four rebounds and four assists. Kaitlin Mitchell finished with 17 points and seven rebounds.

Saint James Ava Card finished with 21 points and nine rebounds in a 46-40 victory over Prattville Christian.

Trinity’s Mya Moskowitz finished with 20 points and five steals in a 57-40 victory over Prattville Christian. Francie Morris scored 13 points to go with seven assists and four steals. Maddie Smith added 13 points, grabbed four rebounds and four steals.

Trinity defeated B.T. Washington Thursday night 59-7. Emory Causey led with 16 points and eight rebounds. Ellie Causey scored 10 points to go with six steals and four rebounds.

Boys basketball

Montgomery Academy’s Skyler Stovall led MA with 19 points, 10 rebounds, and three assists in a 61-57 victory over Wetumpka. DJ Vinson added 16 points, 14 rebounds, four blocks and two assists. Brewer Welch scored 14 points, five rebounds, seven assists and six steals.

Opp’s Dorian Harris finished with 15 points, four rebounds, three assists and three steals in a 74-55 loss to McKenzie. Reed Adams added 12 points and six rebounds.

Prattville Christian’s Collier Connell led the Panthers with 12 points and four rebounds in a 38-35 victory over Saint James. Cade Segars added 10 points and six rebounds. Brady Roberson finished with eight points and six rebounds.

AISA boys basketball

Valiant Cross Academy Warriors fell short in the Regional Tournament opener to Lee-Scott Academy 60-57. Deshawn Hall led Valiant Cross with 19 points, 15 rebounds four blocks and four steals.

Girls soccer

Montgomery Catholic’s Heather Walski recorded 15 saves with three goals against for a save percentage of 83% in a 3-0 loss to Pike Road.

Track and Field

In the 1A-3A Girl’s Classification Montgomery Academy won the Runner-up trophy scoring 72 points finishing behind Dothan’s Houston Academy.

Montgomery Academy’s Isabella Johnson set a new Class 1A/3A state record with a winning heave of 38 feet, 7¾ inches on her fifth toss of the day for the Eagles. She also had a toss of 38-04 on her second try.

Freshman Elle Ingram led the Eagles in scoring with 26 points in individual and relay events. Elle won the 1A-3A 800m with a season best time of 2:24.12. Elle also made the podium 3rd place performances in the 1600m and 3200m races.Senior Sarah-Elizabeth Casey won the 1A-3A high jump on a dramatic last attempt at 4’-10”.Megan Link and Avery Williford both achieving a personal best of 7’-6” in pole vault and finishing 3 and 4th respectively.

The Team’s 4x400m squad of Casey, Link, Tara Samant and Isabella Arnett placed 3rd with a time of 4:31.87.

Freshman Bea Farley placed 5th in the 3200m and the 4x200m team finished 4th and the 4x800m team finished 5th.

Alabama Christian senior Kate Finch scored 24 individual points in 1A-3A competition winning the 3200m with a time of 11:58.07. She also finished 2nd in the 1600m and 3rd in the 800m with a personal best performance. Autumn Scott who placed second in the triple jump with a second round mark of 33’-8.75”; 4x200m relay team placed 6th; and 8th grader Zoey Varnum placed 7th in the 60m dash.Trinity Presbyterian’s senior Ella Wiswall finished 2nd in the 60m and their 4x200 squad placed 3rd.
