The top performers around Charlevoix and Emmet Counties for May 14-16

Here are the top high school sports performances from Tuesday through Thursday around Emmet and Charlevoix counties.

There won’t be a set number of players chosen in each sport in a given period, just including performances which stood out and deserve recognition.

Check for another installment of top performers later this week.

BASEBALL 

Owen Waha, Charlevoix: Waha tossed a five-inning no-hitter against East Jordan Thursday, allowing just a walk and striking out seven in an 8-0 win. He also went 1 for 3 with two RBIs in a 5-0 win.

Peyton Harmon, Petoskey: Petoskey fell in a pair of games against TC West this week, though Harmon was strong on the mound, going 6 1/3 innings with five hits and no walks allowed, while striking out six.

Caiden Phillips, Harbor Springs: The Rams split with Boyne City Thursday, winning 3-2 and falling 6-3. Phillips earned the win on the mound in the victory, with five innings, one hit and three walks allowed, while striking out five.

AJ Speigl, Charlevoix: Speigl kept his bat going against East Jordan with a 3 for 6 night against East Jordan that included four RBIs, a triple and a homer.

Barrett Elliott, Petoskey: Elliott pitched a strong game in a 6-3 win over Elk Rapids Thursday, going six innings with three hits and a walk allowed, while striking out nine.

Jack Terryberry, Charlevoix: Terryberry had a strong game in an 8-0 win over East Jordan, with a double, triple, RBI and two runs scored.

Hunter Lemmerand, Charlevoix: Lemerand finished the series against East Jordan with a 3 for 5 night and a double.

Garrett Wodek, Petoskey: In a split with Elk Rapids, Wodek went 1 for 2 with a pair of RBIs, three runs and a double in a 6-3 win, then went 2 for 3 in a 9-1 loss.

Greyson Rife, Harbor Springs: Rife was solid in both games against Boyne City Thursday, going 4 for 6 with an RBI, double and run scored.

SOFTBALL 

Danyelle Cadarette, Petoskey: Cadarette was huge against TC West this week, going 7 of 8 with two doubles, a home run, seven RBIs and five runs scored between wins of 5-3 and 15-8. She also went 2 for 2 with a double and RBI in an 8-4 win over Elk Rapids Thursday.

Avery Kita, Charlevoix: Kita had a big game against East Jordan in a 20-14 loss Thursday, going 3 for 3 with a triple, RBI and four runs scored.

Lillian Stone, East Jordan: Stone was huge against Charlevoix Thursday in a 20-14 win, going 6 of 6 with a homer, five RBIs and five runs scored.

Katie Hansen, Petoskey: In a sweep over TC West, Hansen pitched 6 2/3 with four hits allowed and 11 strikeouts in a 5-3 win, then went 3 for 5 with an RBI and two runs in a 15-8 win.

Anna Kemp, Charlevoix: Kemp kept it up at the plate against East Jordan, going 3 for 5 with three RBIs, a triple and two runs scored.

Lizzie Pop, East Jordan: Pop had some big pop in the bat Thursday against Charlevoix, with a 2 for 4 night with four RBIs and a run scored.

Alexis Cadarette, Petoskey: Alexis Cadarette was big in the sweep over TC West as well this week, going 6 of 8 with a double, two RBIs and seven runs scored atop the lineup.

Jaidyn Ecker, Petoskey: Ecker brought in a 4 for 4 night with a home run and three RBIs in an 8-4 win over Elk Rapids.

TENNIS

Katya Peck, Petoskey: Peck pulled out a pair of upsets at No. 1 singles during Petoskey’s regional tournament Thursday to advance to the Division 3 state finals. Peck topped Portland’s Bella Virk, the No. 4 seed, (6-1, 6-4) then upset the No. 1 seed Natalie Poortenga of Grand Rapids Christian (2-6, 7-5, 7-5). She eventually fell in the finals to earn a runner-up finish.

TRACK & FIELD 

Katie Rohrer, Charlevoix: With wins in both the 800 and 1,600 meter runs during Thursday’s regional race, Rohrer qualified for the Division 3 state finals in each event. She ran a PR of 2:24.61 in the 800 and 5:19.18 in the 1,600.

Tory Carroll, Charlevoix: Carroll placed second in the long jump at Thursday’s regional with a leap of 16-feet, 1.25 inches, qualifying her for the state finals with the new PR.

Charlevoix 4x200 boys relay: Vitale Collins, Micah Richards, Scott Bush and Logan Wadkins helped the Rayders qualify for the state finals in 1:35.13, good for a runner-up finish.

Peyton Scott, Charlevoix: Scott claimed a second place finish in the 110 hurdles and set a new PR in the race, running 15.23 to qualify for the state finals.

Hunter Eaton, Charlevoix: The Rayder freshman placed third in the 1,600 meter race, though hit a qualifying mark for the state finals with a PR of 4:32.93 at the regional race.

GOLF 

Hudson Vollmer, Charlevoix: Vollmer carded one of his best rounds of the year at the Harbor Springs Invite at the Highlands of Harbor Springs, shooting a runner-up 75, helping the Rayders to a win and best round of the season with a 318.

Ty Burks, East Jordan: Burks was third overall at the Harbor Springs Invite Tuesday with a round of 80.

Scott Lyons, East Jordan: Only a sophomore, Lyons shot a 78 at the Harbor Springs Invite this week, tying for third overall.
