Top Florida transfer portal target to announce commitment

One of the top transfer portal targets for the Florida Gators will make their announcement on Tuesday night. Former Baylor left guard Micah Mazzccua will make his decision between the Auburn Tigers, Nebraska Cornhuskers or the Florida Gators. Mazzccua, considered one of the best guards in the transfer portal, delayed his original commitment date of Sunday after taking a visit to Gainesville to visit the Orange and Blue’s campus in person.

That is good news for the Gators, who are in desperate need of reinforcements along the offensive line. While originally thought to be late to the party, Mazzccua’s delay signifies his openness towards a new program. Nebraska head coach Matt Rhule recruited and signed Mazzccua to Baylor before he left for the NFL. Mazzccua even spent an extended period of time in Lincoln recently, as he listed to what his old coach had to offer him in the Big Ten.

According to Pro Football Focus, Mazzccua ranked as the second-best guard in college football this past season as a pass protector. He allowed just one sack, two hits, eight hurries, and 11 pressures all season. He would slot in and replace former Florida Gators and 2022 consensus first-team All-American O’Cyrus Torrence, who followed Billy Napier from Louisiana to Gainesville and is expected to be one of the first offensive guards taken in the 2023 NFL draft.
