Top 5 games against Texas for Texas Tech women's basketball fans

Texas Tech women's basketball great Sheryl Swoops once told an Associated Press reporter that Texas was "the team to beat," during her playing days.

That sentiment has never been far from the Lady Raiders program.

Although the wins scale tips 79-32 to the Longhorns, there have been plenty of memorable results for Tech. As the teams get set to face off Wednesday in Austin in the last scheduled meeting for the foreseeable future, here's a look at the best games in the rivalry for Tech fans.

Jan. 27, 2007: Texas Tech 49, Texas 48

In the tightest Tech victory in the series, the Lady Raiders got a game-winner from an unlikely source. On her second field goal of the game, Plainview native Alesha Robertson hit the deciding 3-pointer from the top of the key. Tech retained possession after Robertson forced a held ball on the preceding sequence. Erin Myrick led the Lady Raiders with 16 points.

At long last, the Lady Raiders took down their hated rival. The Longhorns won the first 37 matchups in the series. Tech's first victory over UT came in the Southwest Conference tournament semifinals at SMU's Moody Coliseum. The Lady Raiders lost to top-seeded Arkansas in the tournament championship. The following season, Tech got its first win over UT in Lubbock, 78-65.

LaToya Davis scored 15 points, and Jolee Ayers-Curry added 14 as the Lady Raiders picked up their first regular-season win over a No. 1-ranked team. Tech overcame a five-point halftime deficit by outscoring UT 36-18 in the second half. That led to the Longhorns' lowest regular-season total that year.

Feb. 17, 1993: Texas Tech 77, Texas 67

Wins in Austin — the eight Tech has entering Wednesday — are rare, and this particular game was pointed to as a confidence booster. Swoopes told the AP in 2013 that road victory gave the Lady Raiders momentum it rode through the end of the season. It came following a 76-75 loss to UT in the first conference meeting and ultimately resulted in a shared Southwest Conference regular-season title between the teams. It was Tech's first win in Austin after losing the first 16.

March 13, 1993: Texas Tech 78, Texas 71

The Lady Raiders have a number of reasons to fondly remember 1993. But none saw a performance like Swoopes had in the SWC tournament championship. In Tech's second victory over UT that season, Swoopes scored 53 points, a program record that still stands. She was 18 of 31 from the field, also each records. That continued the Lady Raiders' winning streak, which culminated in the school's first team national championship.
