Titans’ 2021 strength of schedule ranks in top half of NFL

The Tennessee Titans’ strength of schedule ranks near the middle of the league among NFL teams for the 2021 season.

According to the NFL on Twitter, Tennessee has the 13th-toughest schedule based on their 2021 opponents’ 2020 records. The Titans’ upcoming opponents went a combined 138-134 (.507) last season.

The Pittsburgh Steelers (155-115-2, .574), a team that is one of Tennessee’s 2021 road opponents, owns the toughest schedule based on this formula, while the Philadelphia Eagles (117-155, .430) have the easiest.

Of course, using this method isn’t a full-proof way of figuring out strength of schedule, as it doesn’t factor in teams making improvements or getting worse throughout the offseason via free agency, trades and the draft.

As far as the rest of the AFC South is concerned, the Titans have the toughest schedule of any team in the division.

The Houston Texans (137-135, .504) are tied for 15th, the Jacksonville Jaguars (133-138-1, .491) rank 18th, and the Indianapolis Colts (130-142, .478) are tied for the ninth-easiest strength of schedule in the NFL.

To compare to last season, the Titans entered the 2020 campaign ranked 19th in strength of schedule, so it would appear on the surface that their 2021 slate will be a bit more difficult.
