Volleyball hits the postseason in Colorado next week, and one of our local standouts is the latest Blue Federal Credit Union Athlete of the Week!

Timnath volleyball's Jersey McCollum took top honors in the Fort Collins area for Oct. 15-21, helping the Cubs go 3-0 last week with her all-around game.

The freshman was a swiss army knife all over the court, recording 77 assists, 49 digs and seven aces while Timnath dropped only one set in victories over University, Estes Park and Loveland Classical.

The setter/pin hitter is fifth among Colorado Class 3A players in assists this season, helping the Cubs sit firmly inside the 3A top five after a 20-3 regular season in the program's second year.

Timnath will host a three-team regional next weekend, the new school's first home postseason varsity action and a prime opportunity to reach the state tournament.

McCollum won the Blue Federal Credit Union fan poll with 54.5% of the 19,923 votes cast.

That beat out other fantastic performances from her fellow nominees:

  • Mikey Munn, Windsor football (runner-up with 44.4%)

  • Cash Altschwager, Wellington football

  • Brooklynn Cardenas, Fossil Ridge softball

  • Isabel Allori, Liberty Common cross country

The Blue Federal Credit Union Athlete of the Week series features five nominees every Monday, with voting at Coloradoan.com until 11 p.m. Wednesday and the winner named on Thursday.

Fans can nominate their favorite athletes (deadline: 11:59 p.m. every Saturday) and the Coloradoan Sports staff will ultimately select the five nominees each week.
