Tim Legler on why Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving will likely start the season in Brooklyn
Kevin Durant wants out of Brooklyn following a disastrous season with the Nets, but the organization is under no obligation to trade him, and reportedly hasn’t received any serious offers to this point.
According to ESPN’s Tim Legler, it’s now likely that Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving will start the season with the Nets, if not simply decide to stay, as teams don’t have the assets to make compelling offers to GM Sean Marks.
When trading two superstars, Marks’ responsibility is to get as close to equal value in return, but that may be impossible for a player as transcendent as Durant.
“They’re probably going to end up starting the season [in Brooklyn] because teams just don’t have the assets that it’s going to take to get Kevin Durant. This is a complicated trade to try to work out to get equal value back and position yourself if you’re the Nets. And if I’m Sean Marks, all I’m worried about is the Brooklyn Nets. I’m not trying to appease Kevin Durant or Kyrie Irving and trying to capitulate to their desires and needs and where they want to play. I’m not making a deal until I re-load and re-stock my cabinets, so to speak.”
