Tigers walk it off in ninth inning to take series vs. Georgia

The Tigers wore their Sunday best to The Box as they took on the Georgia Bulldogs in the rubber match of the series on Sunday afternoon.

Samuel Dutton got the start on the mound and went 4.2 innings allowing two earned runs on four hits, four strikeouts and zero walks as the Tigers ultimately earned a walk-off win to take a crucial series win.

Crews missiles were flying out of the park in Game 3, and it all started in the bottom of the first when Dylan Crews hit a home run off the top of the scoreboard in left field to make it 1-0 LSU. In the top of the fifth inning, Georgia took their first lead of the game as it scored two runs against Dutton to take a 2-1 lead into the bottom of the fifth.

In the bottom of the fifth, Crews struck back with another solo homer to tie the game up at 2-2. The game remained that way until the top of the eighth inning when the ‘Dawgs scored an unearned run against Devin Fontenot to make it 3-2 Georgia.

LSU entered the bottom of the ninth inning with its back against the wall. If it wanted to win the series against Georgia, it would have to dig its way out of a 3-2 deficit with only three outs remaining.

Jacob Berrywas the first batter in the inning and he hit a single to left field on a 1-2 count to give the Tigers some hope. With the tying run on first base, Redshirt sophomore Cade Doughty stepped into the box.

The first pitch to him was taken for a ball. With a 1-0 count and the series on the line, Doughty showed up as he puckered up and kissed that baby goodbye.

He got a fastball right down Broadway, and he didn’t miss it. In dramatic fashion, the Tigers walked it off and clinched the series win over the Georgia Bulldogs 4-3.

With the win, LSU improves to 29-14 (12-9 SEC). The Tigers will play Nicholls at home Tuesday night before traveling to Tuscaloosa for a weekend series with the Crimson Tide starting next Friday.
