Tigers trounce Northwestern in Alva

Nov. 4—ALVA — The East Central University volleyball team secured a clean sweep over Northwestern Oklahoma State University with a 3-0 victory on Thursday night at Percefull Fieldhouse.

With the win, ECU improved its GAC record to 7-7 while Northwestern dropped to 5-9.

Set one saw both teams trade points early before the Tigers broke away with a 5-0 scoring run to establish a 12-7 lead that later extended to 20-12. ECU maintained their distance and ultimately closed out the set with a convincing 25-18 win.

The Tigers took the early lead in the second set, but the Rangers put together a series of scoring runs, including five consecutive points, to surge ahead 18-9. With a hole to dig out of, ECU fought for every point, eventually tying the score 21-all. The set became a close battle with the score leveling four more times until the Tigers clinched the final two points to take the set 27-25 and the 2-0 match lead.

In the third set, Northwestern made an early push, leading at 5-2 and later 10-7. However, ECU responded with straight points to regain control at 15-11. The Rangers managed to close the gap, coming within one point at 19-18, but the Tigers pushed forward to lead 22-19. They then closed out the match with the final three points of the set to claim the 25-21 set three win and 3-0 sweep.

Emma Strickland and Odalys Gonzalez had double-doubles on the night. Strickland led the offense with 17 kills and Gonzalez recorded 10 while each posting 10 digs. Julia Kabala picked up 35 assists, Sydney Roshek tallied 15 digs, and Ashleigh Miller had six total blocks.

The ECU volleyball team will remain on the road for their next match against Southern Nazarene University scheduled for 7 p.m. Monday in Bethany.
