Tigers' Fister 'fine' after line drive to head
The Detroit Tigers said starting pitcher Doug Fister is OK but was scheduled to be checked a day after taking a line drive to his head during Game 2 of the World Series.
Fister stayed in Thursday's game, which the San Francisco Giants won 2-0 to take a 2-0 lead in the best-of-7 series.
"He will be checked out," manager Jim Leyland said in a press conference Friday. "We will take care of everything."
A team spokesman later said trainer Kevin Rand pronounced Fister as fine, according to ESPN.com.
The line drive hit by the Giants' Gregor Blanco struck Fister just above his right ear and ricocheted into short center field for a single.
"I think he's fine because I did talk to him," Leyland said. "I'm serious now. I did talk to him on the plane (Thursday) night, and he seemed fine. He's a little sore, but there didn't appear to be anything that looked alarming like loss of memory. He looked fine, his eyes looked fine, and the trainers have checked him out, so I think he's fine."
First pitch for Saturday's Game 3 in Detroit is scheduled at 8:07 p.m. ET.
