Thunder rookie Chet Holmgren underwent second procedure on foot

Thunder rookie Chet Holmgren underwent second procedure on foot

Oklahoma City Thunder rookie Chet Holmgren on Tuesday underwent a successful secondary procedure to remove hardware in his surgically-repaired right foot.

Holmgren underwent a procedure on Aug. 30 to address a Lisfranc injury suffered during a pro-am in Seattle, Washington. The initial surgery and follow-up procedure were both performed by Dr. David Porter at Forté Sports Medicine and Orthopedics in Carmel, Indiana.

The latest procedure is a scheduled part of the rehabilitation process for Holmgren. He remains on the same timeline from the rare basketball injury and will return for the 2023-24 season, the team announced.

Holmgren shed his walking boot last month and is progressing in his recovery from the injury. He was spotted on Friday at the team practice facility doing various on-court shooting drills and other activities with the training staff.

Thunder head coach Mark Daigneault said on Nov. 15 the second pick is in great spirits and is on track with his recovery. The team is rallying behind him during this process and is encouraging him every step of the way as he works toward returning to full health.

The recovery from such a major injury will be a long and grueling process for Holmgren, but it is clear he has a strong support system around him to help him throughout the process.
