Three-star defensive back Jalon Thompson is the latest offer from Rutgers football

Jalon Thompson was offered by Rutgers football this week as the Big Ten program joins a crowded recruitment for a talented and athletic prospect.

A 6-foot, 180-pound defensive back from Olympia High School (Orlando, FL). He is a strong, imposing safety prospect who moves well in space and reads the game effectively. He is instinctive in his movement and had good closing speed.

According to Rivals, he is a three-star recruit and the No. 47 safety in the nation.

Thompson’s offer list is strong and impressive. His Power Five offers include Duke, Georgia Tech, Iowa State, Kansas, Louisville, Maryland, Minnesota, North Carolina, Ole Miss, Penn State, Purdue, Vanderbilt and West Virginia among others.

Last season, Thompson had 17 tackles and two interceptions.

Florida has become an increasing priority for Rutgers, including a strong push into the state for the 2023 recruiting class that included six players from the state who committed to the Scarlet Knights. Abram Wright, a member of the class from Florida (Fleming Island), was praised by Rutgers linebackers coach Corey Hetherman last month for his showing in spring practice to date.

Following the commitment of two tight ends over the weekend (Monte Keener on Sunday and Matthew Ogunniyi on Monday), the 2024 recruiting class currently stands at seven players for Rutgers football.
