It was a weekend to remember in the FA Women’s Super League for Arsenal fans as the glory days retuned to north London.

The Gunners became champions for the first time in seven years with a 4-0 win over Brighton at the Amex Stadium and it was typically emphatic performance with the likely suspects all involved.

The result means that Manchester City will have to roll out the red carpet for Arsenal when they face off at Meadow Park for the final game of the season, despite not losing a single domestic game all campaign.

Meanwhile back-to-back title winner in 2011 and 2012 with Arsenal, Ellen White, was up to her old tricks for current club Birmingham City.

And Ebony Salmon ensured Sheffield United bagged yet another win in the FA Women’s Championship as they continue to blitz the season run-in.

Vivianne Miedema – Arsenal

The Dutch striker continues to collect all of the trophies and accolades she deserves this season and she showed exactly why in the first ten minutes against Brighton on Sunday.

Miedema was voted PFA Players’ Player of the Year by her fellow professionals and will finish this season with goalscoring statistics of the like that has never been seen before in the FA WSL.

Her 22 goals from 19 games has been a major factor in the Gunners recouping the league title for the first time in seven years and it was just business as usual for the 22-year-old on Sunday.

Arsenal knew that a win would seal the title, while defeat could possibly open the door for Manchester City to steal it off them in the final game of the season – so what does Miedema do?

She gets the ball 20 yards from goal in the opening five minutes and sends an absolute howitzer past Marie Hourihan and off the underside of the crossbar.

From then on, the win was just a formality and goals from Katie McCabe, Beth Mead and the mesmeric Danielle van de Donk made sure the celebrations could begin early in north London.

Ellen White – Birmingham City

The evergreen goal machine that is Ellen White was in flying form once again as her first-half double against Liverpool gave Birmingham City a valuable win.

White’s first was the result of some good fortune when Charlie Wellings’ effort came back off the post for the England international to turn in – but you still have to be in the right place at the right time to score those.

But she showed all her experience with her second, rising highest in the penalty area to head home Chloe Arthur’s clipped cross and put her side in command.

Late on, she was denied a hat-trick too when her attempted lob was just met by the backpedalling Fran Kitching but the three points were already secure.

Victory meant that Birmingham moved above Chelsea, who have been out of domestic action for a fortnight with European football, and will hope to stay there come the end of the season.

Ebony Salmon – Sheffield United

Sheffield United have been the form side, other than powerhouse Manchester United, in the Championship for the second half of the season and a 3-0 victory over Lewes on Sunday made it six in a row for the Blades.

Striker Salmon showed a cool head to capitalise on a mix-up at the back and take the ball around Nina Wilson in the Lewes net to tuck home the opener.

And Salmon, who is currently on loan from the Red Devils, needed no invitation to show she can produce goals of real quality too after she let the ball roll across her body before smashing it into the bottom corner on the hour mark to ensure the job was done and dusted at the Dripping Pan.
