Three local swimmers win CIF-SS titles at Division 3 and 4 finals

Nordhoff High junior Quin Seider captured two titles and Oak Park High junior March Yuan and Pacifica High freshman Abigail Tamayo each won a title to lead a contingent of local swimmers who had top finishes at the CIF-Southern Section Division 3 and 4 swimming championships Friday at the Riverside Community College Aquatic Complex.

Seider won the 50-yard freestyle title in an automatic All-American time of 20.45 seconds and the 100 freestyle in an automatic All-American time of 44.61 in the Division 3 boys finals. It was the third overall CIF-SS title for Seider, who won the 100 butterfly in Division 4 as a freshman. The Star's Boys Swimmer of the Year in 2022 finished second in the 50 freestyle and third in the 100 freestyle in last season's Division 3 finals.

Yuan won the 200 IM crown in 1:56.45 in the Division 3 boys finals. Yuan took fourth in the 500 freestyle and sixth in the 100 butterfly last season in the Division 4 finals.

Tamayo won the 50 freestyle title in a state-consideration time of 24.35 in the Division 4 finals. She also placed fourth in the 100 freestyle in 55.76.

Several area swimmers had top placements in the Division 3 finals.

Moorpark sophomore Chloe Cheevers finished second in the girls 100 breaststroke in 1:08.05 and was fourth in the 200 IM in 2:15.33.

For Foothill Tech, sophomore Charlie Woo-Bloxberg finished second in the girls 500 freestyle in 5:10.30 and was fifth in the 200 freestyle in 1:56.05. Freshman Cynthia Hu finished third in the girls 500 freestyle in 5:10.72 and was sixth in the 200 freestyle in 1:57.70. Woo-Bloxberg, sophomore Camila Lewis, sophomore Mikaela Clabaugh and Hu placed 10th in the 400 freestyle relay in 3:47.35.

For Rio Mesa, junior Jaiden Monroe finished second in the boys 100 backstroke with a state-consideration time of 51.56 and was sixth in the 100 butterfly in 52.34. Senior Nick Santander placed 10th in the boys 100 freestyle with a state-consideration time of 47.37 and was 10th in the 200 freestyle in 1:45.35. Monroe, senior Michael Soho, Santander and senior John Emmerich placed fourth in the 200 IM relay in 1:40.79. Santander, Emmerich, Soho and Monroe finished 10th in the 400 freestyle relay in 3:18.23.

For Nordhoff, freshman Melina Seider finished sixth in the girls 500 freestyle in 5:21.75 and placed 11th in the 200 freestyle in 1:59.84. Senior Tayten Neiderhiser placed 10th in the girls 100 backstroke in 1:03.07. Neiderhiser, senior Josephine Hartmann, senior Ela Ruf and junior Amelie Pinkernell took 12th in the 200 freestyle relay in 1:45.08. Neiderhiser, Pinkernell, Hartmann and Seider finished 12th in the 400 freestyle relay in 3:48.57.

For Oak Park, senior Madison Tran finished seventh in the girls 100 butterfly in 1:00.22 and was 17th in the 200 freestyle in 2:03.91. Freshman Caroline Bi took eighth in the girls 100 backstroke in 1:00.89 and placed 10th in the 100 freestyle in 55.14. Freshman Elliott Drottar placed 11th in the boys 500 freestyle in 4:57.56.

For Buena, sophomore Olivia Decierdo finished 10th in the girls 100 breaststroke in 1:11.06, senior Kathryn Salazar took 15th in the the girls 50 freestyle in 25.79, and freshman Addison Bruno placed 17th in the the girls 50 freestyle in 26.04. Bruno, junior Kendall Nagaoka, senior Gabrielle Swaim and Salazar placed ninth in the 400 freestyle relay in 3:53.29. Bruno, Swaim, Nagaoka and Salazar placed 13th in the 200 freestyle relay in 1:45.79.

For Ventura, senior Jake Eulenhoefer finished 11th in the boys 100 freestyle in 48.69 and placed 16th in the 50 freestyle in 22.43. Junior Merrick Giles finished 15th in the boys 200 freestyle in 1:51.20 and was 17th in the 100 freestyle in 49.54. Giles, Owen Fonua, Gianno DelNagro and Eulenhoefer took third in the 400 freestyle relay in 3:15.40.

Royal sophomore Faith Marshall finished 11th in the girls 100 breaststroke in 1:11.60.

Nordhoff junior Benjamin McSorley finished 15th in the boys 100 breaststroke in 1:01.78.

Villanova Prep senior Hannah Tully-Giles placed 16th in the girls 100 freestyle in 56.69.

In the Division 4 finals, Villanova Prep senior Luigi Travi took second in the boys 50 freestyle in 22.46 and finished third in the 100 backstroke in 55.69. Villanova Prep freshman James Keyser finished fourth in the 100 boys freestyle in 51.96 and was 10th in the 200 freestyle in 1:53.27.

Moorpark junior John Ou finished eighth in the 100 boys breaststroke in 1:06.81 and was 15th in the 200 IM in 2:26.43.

St. Bonaventure senior Nico Macias finished 14th in the boys 100 backstroke in 1:04.31 and was 17th in the 100 freestyle in 53.97.
