It’s the second year of springtime official visits. Let that sink in for just a moment.

With recruits getting more accustomed to the new rules the second time through, it’s putting a bigger spotlight on official visits taken in the spring. Mainly, it allows out-of-state prospects to make their way to far-away campuses that aren’t driving distance on a typical Saturday junior day. With that in mind, here are the five biggest official visits out of the Lone Star State for April.

AKINOLA OGUNBIYI: Oklahoma, April 12

Ogunbiyi backed off his longtime Texas A&M commitment last month. Georgia, Alabama and Oklahoma have emerged as legit contenders for the Rivals250 offensive guard and the four-star was back in Norman, again, for an official visit for the Sooners’ spring game on April 12. Lincoln Riley and Bill Bedenbaugh are quietly gaining a ton of momentum with the standout interior lineman, who may be reluctant to commit somewhere so soon after pressing the reset button on his entire recruiting process.

However, there’s no doubt that the Sooners are the team with the most ammunition in the aftermath of the recent official visit. It would not be surprising in the least bit to learn that Ogunbiyi has given his word to Riley that he'll be a Sooner down the road.

MALIK HORNSBY: North Carolina, April 12

Hornsby has been closely connected to Texas A&M for a good portion of time, but the Rivals250 quarterback elected to take his first official visit to North Carolina, which has emerged as a major out-of-state contender. Why the Tar Heels? Former Aggies assistant Tim Brewster reunited with first-year North Carolina coach Mack Brown in Chapel Hill. Brewster was a primary reason that Hornsby was so high on Texas A&M early on in the process and is now a major reason why he’s considering North Carolina. Clemson, Alabama and Oregon are also players in Hornsby’s recruitment, but it’s certainly noteworthy he chose to visit North Carolina for the spring game as early as he did.
